My laptop is running really slow and a while ago on here someone mentioned about cleaning up things running in the background - I think it was temporary files - and the instructions were to press key somethingorother...
Has anyone got a clue what Im talking about?   |

Ccleaner and spybot are both excellent free programmes which are easy to follow and do what they are supposed to! Used them for years and never had any difficulties. |

Thanks but this wasnt a programme - it was something like a key and control, but not that, and then when I did it about a 1000 things came up on a list which I then just deleted....
Sorry Im rubbish at explaining and I dont really know what Im talking about - I just know it worked! |

defragging might help go to your windows menu and type in to the search box defrag it will then come up click it and run it can take ages it sometimes helps but running a disk cleanup helps too i think you can get to that on the main menu too |

try going to Program files - then accesories - then system tools
then here is disc cleanup and defrag - both things which should help sped the machine up
it is also worth putting spybot S&D on it guards against trojens and keyloggers |

ccleaner i use daily. do try it.
also check the taskmanager for running processes(theres some u dont need, but u gotta be careful), tartup programs like itunes etc dont need to automatically run, so check what programs are starting themelves and running in the background, and maybe u need more RAM
I'm happy to provide some RAM...but i mean that sexually |

Thanks. Ive already got spyware so I think thats ok, Ill try the other.
Was ok until yesterday when I did a windows live essential update and its been crap today. Dont know if thats related or not...  |

Prob with the programs is Im always worried about stopping them because I dont actually know what most of them are for... |

Do a system restore,go back a day if it worked fine before you done your update |
