The songs rule Britannia and land of hope and glory WILL be performed this year..
There was a concern they may be dropped due to concerns of association with colonisation and slavery..
What next....drop the great from Great Britain...or change the name britain .....? |

It’s quite amusing in a way.
The fuckwit management of the BBC has decided that both “songs” (which they are not if you know anything about musical form) will be performed in orchestral arrangements only, thus offending the BLM side and enraging - their default setting, so it’s not difficult - the little-britains... It’s difficult to think of a less satisfactory solution all round.
They could have saved themselves this long ago if they had grasped the nettle and kicked all of the “traditional” LNOP nonsense into the park where it belongs with the anoraks and picnic hampers, leaving the LNOP proper for the grown-ups - those who will in any normal year support eight weeks of concerts.
Yes, I did write eight weeks. I bet that’s news to those who think the Last Night is the only gig in the season and also somehow their personal property: the Proms season runs from mid-July until mid-September. Try turning up to, watching (BBC4, though the dwindling number of broadcasts take some finding) or listening to (Radio 3) some of the other gigs in the season. (Or actually performing at some, as I have at quite a number.). Then you might be entitled in some small way to gripe about the content. |

Easy tiger with the rant. You don't know everything about everyone on here. Some people enjoy classical music as previous topic threads have shown, the proms aren't exclusively yours. People are quite legitimately questioning the sense of removing songs that may or may not have had colonial links in the past but are viewed quite differently today. What is of more concern to me is the way that modern music is allowed to have lyrics dehumanising or sexualising women (bitch, ho etc), glorifying murder including cop killing and celebrating gang culture with free licence. |

Those who are entitled to gripe about the content are those who pay the performers' wages - the audience. |
