Writing to people you know

We all have thoughts and we all have things we want to say, though not everyone will understand or appreiciate.

I find myself writing notes about how I feel about certain things, but never showing them to anyone as would hate for someone to read them.

Am I alone in this? Or does writing things down help other people cope?

It can help get the feelings out of your head and resolve any issues. -It's not always possible or wise to tell people what you really think of them.

Maybe shred the notes so no-one can find them by accident.

It is an excellent idea. If you can put it into words you have a better handle on something and assist with healing and dealing.

If you DO decide to share Don't send them immediately though, read it back when mood has changed, if you still feel it says what you need to say, cannot be easily misunderstood and considers the feelings of the other party then that is the best outcome you can hope for.

Writing stuff down helps me and always has done. I used to keep a diary in my teens and into my 20s. Used to write in it practically every night.

Now I write haiku which helps to focus my mind or create a thread out of it for here.

If writing helps you then keep doing it

It's a great idea, writing can be very cathartic. I don't write to particular people as such but I do write, a lot.

My brain tends to take over when I write so I don't really think about it, just let the words flow.

Sometimes just writing it down and never reading it works, other times I write it down and read it back.

I went through a really difficult period in my life in 2019, was the lowest ive ever been. Its a place i never ever thought id be because of the person i am.

I started to write a journal in that time. I still have it and reread it at times. Just to remind myself that even when things are at the worst, you can bounce back.

Long story but I used to write loads about how my mum made me feel growing up and how much I hated her

5 years ago I had a massive mental breakdown and low and behold my mother, being the nosey wotsit she is found my journals with everything in them, I was mortified because even though she had hurt me so much I also didn't want her to know how I really felt for fear of hurting her, go figure!! Anyhow it actually helped to strengthen our relationship and we are now much closer.

Sorry waffled on there but sometimes it's not so bad if someone does find them

Yes I do the same from time to time just to remind myself how far I have come.

Well done for bouncing back its hard work but worth it

If I’m ever writing a message based fuelled by emotion - I would go into my notes, write down what I wanted to & leave it there. Then come back a day later or so, have a read of it & if I still think the same I’ll send it.

I use an app called Catch It for this. Good to get out the feelings in a safe space as it calms the mind

Never feel ashamed of what you have written OP, at the time it was obviously needed. If your uncomfortable with it being around, you could burn it or hide it in a place on your phone protected by a pin. I wouldn't want some of what I've written to be read as it's very personal to me and how I felt at the time. I used to destroy that stuff but now I know it won't be found until I'm no longer here and by then, well it won't really matter.

that last bit is the bit that gets me at the moment - if this was ever to be found i would not be here and dont know if would make things better or worse

guess we will see if i keep it or delete it or redo it

On a mooch

I’ve been doing this most my adult life, I call them letters that will never get delivered. It is a great way to get everything out that you need to say, clear the mind so you can move on

Delightful Bliss

When I meditate at the beach I write any negative words or feelings, people who have hurt me, basically anything that's on my mind in the sand and let the sea wash it away, adds to my mental cleansing

I do this an awful lot yes, especially when it might be a little heated or passionate. I invariably never send the words to the person as what I write from the heart at night tends to be a bit overkill in the light of day. I do feel better for doing it though. Sometimes the best way to have an arguement/discussion is with yourself, you can always win and have the last word.

Bham

Sounds a lot like a diary.

I don't. But I do write stories and the characters are often feeling what I'm feeling.

never really did the diary route

used to blog on another site but took them down as felt was sharing too much

this is a rather specific note that hope never gets used

I hope you never have to use it too, and maybe it is enough just to have got those feelings out there.
