When you get chatting to someone, do you share your real first name?

Do you use an initial or an alias? Or does it depend on the person?

Have you ever forgotten to even give out your name?

I’ve been chatting to someone on and off for the last 6 months or so, and tonight we both realised we didn’t know each others names

For some reason i thought it was a good idea for my username to be my name, year of birth and where i live, for good or bad it makes conversations 3 questions shorter, i have thought about changing to something wittier but then theres the issue of getting verified again which is even harder nowadays

I don't share my real name until we're meeting or I'm very confident in the individual. My first name is pretty unusual so easy to identify me. If anyone found out my surname, then I believe I'm the only person in the world with that name, so..... S has a bog standard first name but his surname is extremely unusual.

I wouldn't tell anyone my name unless we were meeting after chatting for a while.

It's very unusual and if you search it on Google it brings up too much personal information and links to my Instagram, Twitter and blogs, articles from when I was in the paper (not a murderer I promise ) and location so nope, unless I completely trust you, you're never going to know.
