Just took a chance on Tesco brand low sugar protein powder as I have been struggling to find a nice tasting low carb powder that I don't need to gulp down as quick a possible while pinching my nose. I made it up with almond milk and a little double cream and my goodness it is delicious!! Like a super thick, creamy milkshake for only 4g net carbs. Highly recommend if anyone is also following low carb/keto and finding it hard to get enough protein in, it's only £9 for 17 servings, bargain! |

It's 112 cals and 2.8g carbs for the powder by itself, and then obviously it depends on what you mix it with |

"Don’t worry too much about the carbs it’s the sugar that’s the most important thing to cut down on"
Low carb inherently means low sugar though as your body converts carbs to glucose |

Try the grenade hydra 6 range the chocolate charge flavour is amazing. And more importantly it’s 50/50 whey isolate and casein with only 2.4 grams of carbs - I am in fact just shaking up my pre sleep portion for the night ! |

I’m not sure really as I always tend to have stuff with it at breakfast too hot my calorie goal.
It seems to be working though |

Fair. I do think grenade as a whole is pretty expensive though. I used to like their carb killa shakes but they didn't keep me full for very long |

Myprotein website does a 5kg bag whey protein for £52 at the minute (current discount). 25g serving, 1g carbs per serving, vegetarian and that would be 200 servings |

I've lost 2 stone (13kg) since April but not all of it was through keto. I had to stop for a while due to a health issue and gained back around 5 lbs (lots of stress and comfort eating), now been back on keto for about 5 days and already lost everything I gained back so still at the 2 stone mark. Planning to stay with it this time as I figured out the cause of my health issue - I thought it might have been cutting carbs out which is why I stopped keto before. |

Ah that's what I thought
You have not lost much if any fat I'm afraid
You cannot cannot lose that as fat in that time
What you have lost is mainly glycogen water and faeces
So sorry |

"What is keto and is it easy to follow?"
Yes and no.
You basically cut out all sugar, grains, fruit, legumes/beans/pulses, starchy veg and eat high fat, moderate protein and very low carb (max 20-30g per day mainly from non starchy veg). It switches your body to a state called ketosis where you burn fat for fuel instead of carbs/glucose.
It is easy in the sense that the amount of fat you eat keeps you super full all day (think lots of butter, cheese, cream etc) so it's easy to stop snacking and eat smaller portions but the food options are quite limited and it's very hard to eat out (although not as much of a problem at the moment). |

Bulk Powders are good value, I like their vanilla. Whey does stimulate insulin though, so real food is preferable. |

Or ignore keto until you need it ie when you reach single figure body fat
As long as carbs are between 80 to 200 g per day and calories 3500 less than bazel per week you will lose |

Many, many obese, overweight, and even average sized people have lost tons of weight through keto. Just do a simple Google search or have a look on places like diet doctor and YouTube for the hundreds of success stories.
I've tried your calorie based dieting approach more times than I can count and I was eating around 1800 cals (much lower than my BMR) and 160g of carbs per day when I was eating "normally" . If it works for you that's great but guess what, every body is different and what works for some will not work for others.
You've feigned an interest in my weight loss only to try and use it to burst my bubble. You've done this previously on threads I've started about weight loss. Just let me live and do things my way. This is the one thing I've found that's working for me and I am not going to let you ruin it |

"With the greatest respect
Im not sure i understand what protein powder is
Why dont you just eat, well, food?
Can someone explain it to me please?"
Personally I prefer to get all my protein from real food but sometimes it can be hard to eat it all. I sometimes use protein powder to top it up. When I got really into weight lifting I struggled really badly with soreness and it was still happening after months of going to the gym. Turns out I wasn't eating enough protein so my muscles weren't repairing properly. It's easily done when you don't eat meat. |

It depends what you use it for. Some people use it as a meal/snack replacement as it's lower calorie than a full meal but can be just as filling and some people use it to get more protein into their diet. I do the latter as I struggle getting enough protein from my food intake alone.
Then you get the body builders who are all about muscle repair and "gains" but you are better off asking one of them as I have no clue about weight lifting lol. |

No I haven't i dont need to do that
I've given straight advice
And I'm happy for you to live however you want please do
However if you want to succeed it may not be the most effective method
And again i was only being blunt with regards the non fat loss i find facts help me achieve things
If you're happy please continue
But the journey you embark upon has been my point of interest and learning for 30 plus years

1.5 lbs per month
2 years
15 kg
You ate a calorific deficit
Low carb can assist
It can hinder
Sustainability is the only key
Keto ie less than 50 g carb daily for most is not
For a minority it clicks
We most need some carbs for fiber
Fiber fuels good gut bacteria
Good for skin hormones and many other functions
Weat loss is best done long term with as many food groups as possible
Keto works short term

You've feigned an interest in my weight loss only to try and use it to burst my bubble. You've done this previously on threads I've started about weight loss. Just let me live and do things my way. This is the one thing I've found that's working for me and I am not going to let you ruin it
Just ignore. I've had the same. I've lost 15kg over a number of years but apparently I'm doing it all wrong . You're doing great .
1.5 lbs per month
2 years
15 kg
You ate a calorific deficit
Low carb can assist
It can hinder
Sustainability is the only key
Keto ie less than 50 g carb daily for most is not
For a minority it clicks
We most need some carbs for fiber
Fiber fuels good gut bacteria
Good for skin hormones and many other functions
Weat loss is best done long term with as many food groups as possible
Keto works short term

"What is keto and is it easy to follow?
Thanks will take a look.into in more detail..
Or ignore keto until you need it ie when you reach single figure body fat
As long as carbs are between 80 to 200 g per day and calories 3500 less than bazel per week you will lose
Many, many obese, overweight, and even average sized people have lost tons of weight through keto. Just do a simple Google search or have a look on places like diet doctor and YouTube for the hundreds of success stories.

Oh and amber
Iv asked details on your threads but never ever knocked what you did
You asked about exercises once
For a moment I thought I could be inventive enough for a solution for you but realised I could not
Walking would be so effective
for you but as you say you dont like it thus it's no solution
Iv actually only replied as I wanted to help you mentioned the near diabetic
But I'm anti fad diets
I hope you succeed however keto is not known for people sticking
Good luck though
And lacy I'm glad lowering your carbs helped your loss but it sounds sensible sustainable and non rapid I'm not convinced it was strict keto

You know exactly what you did and do
Keto where carbs are less than 50 g and fat very very high
If you genuinely stick to this no adverse effects no issues and your weight is consistent and no yo yo
Advocate your method but I urge caution at advocating any extreme activities to another
I know how to cut low and I assure you I would never utter a word on the forum as they are not healthy or sustainable
I'll stick with cautionary feelings on keto
And advocate balance

"Just took a chance on Tesco brand low sugar protein powder as I have been struggling to find a nice tasting low carb powder that I don't need to gulp down as quick a possible while pinching my nose.
Bulk Powders are good value, I like their vanilla. Whey does stimulate insulin though, so real food is preferable.
Bulk p and my pro I think have the same parent co
Their prices are almost identical however you need to buy when they send the 45 percent offers "
Which is every 5 mins luckily lol! They have some interesting products too, and always the best price. |

The only person advocating anything is you, I have simply explained what the diet is and that it's worked for a lot of people. At no point did I, or in fact anyone, say "you must do this diet". In fact this whole thread was based off my review of a protein powder, not quite sure how it took such a downward turn... |

Not so. 7000 under per week doing 56 mins cardio hill walking and I did not lose an ounce.

Hmm, I would disagree with this definition I am afraid. To get into ketosis, you simply need to get carbs low, and indeed if you want to lose fat, eating a high proportion of fat in the diet can, for many, be counter-productive. |

I don't know if it would be possible for someone like me to keep both carbs and fat low though, I'd be miserable! I think for someone of my size I'm probably okay eating high fat for the moment but obviously this is different for everybody. With the amount I am eating at the moment I feel very satiated and it's really helping me to curb my snacking. Also I haven't even thought about a binge in the past week or so, which for me is massive |

Unfortunately the vegan protein shake powders are usually very gritty. I've switched to the clear whey isolate which is much more palatable to me than shakes and doesn't seem to upset my stomach like the creamy ones can though there is also a vegan version which apparently mixes just as well. I have the peach tea flavour and it's just like drinking squash which is super refreshing! |

Ooh this sounds interesting, although I have to admit I like the fact that when a protein shake is really creamy and tasty it can make me feel like I'm having a dessert.
And yeah the vegan stuff is gritty af. I've tried straining it, blending it, adding different flavourings/milks. It's just bad. |

It's cheaper than real food though. And I say this as someone who tries to get my full protein intake from food. I personally prefer it but it costs and its hard to eat that much. Especially when you still want to get a decent intake of vegetables as well. |

Your body can convert other molecules into sugar through a process called gluconeogenesis. Easiest is to consume simple sugars, but remember there was once a time when humans did not harvest sugar cane and eat bread etc. |

Yep, especially as a vegetarian. The meat replacements often have more carbs than real meat and I also want to be able to have a good amount of veg so protein shakes are the only way for me to get enough protein without going over carb allowance. |

Haha, I don't eat food with 'labels'. I do eat normal, fresh food, prepared from scratch, and low carb - but I have found I need to hit a minimum protein target for my needs, and sometimes a little top up of concentrated protein just makes that easier. No potions involved. |

I get the basic unflavoured isolate from
MyProtein and blend with skimmed milk, strawberries, tiny bit of cranberry juice and a big spoon of creatine. For a late night session I lose the fruits and add raw cacao , salted caramel syrup and crush 3 zma tabs into - you’re asleep before you finish training , love experimenting with these, gets good results and saves a lot of money. |

Your body can convert other molecules into sugar through a process called gluconeogenesis. Easiest is to consume simple sugars, but remember there was once a time when humans did not harvest sugar cane and eat bread etc."
True but when we came across a cherry tree in fruit or a nice fatty mammoth we’d scoff the lot and store the sugar and fat in our bodies as we had no cupboards. The cupboard only got invented after wheat and cows enslaved us and made us make big piles of food everywhere |

My humble opinion would be to cut out the cream just to cut back on the calories... I myself actually use water rather then milk, because the protein gets to the muscles a lot faster, with milk it’s slower acting. Also to tackle the taste problem I go for a flavoured protein like Gold standard (ice cream flavour). |

You are sort of right, but if we look at traditional hunter gatherer communities, they eat very little in the way of fruit etc. You can generate sufficient glucose for energy by rearranging the glycerol units that make up triglycerides, ample of which hunter gatherers obtain from meat, nuts and seeds. Also the bits of proteins we don't pee out can be fed into various metabolic pathways, which lead to the formation of ATP. |

"What is keto and is it easy to follow?
Hmm, I would disagree with this definition I am afraid. To get into ketosis, you simply need to get carbs low, and indeed if you want to lose fat, eating a high proportion of fat in the diet can, for many, be counter-productive."
Yeah that Michael Moseley programme on currently gets them into ketosis with a low fat/low carb regime. |

They were lean, fast and strong, but could they bench 100kg?
I try to minimise fruit to a few berries per day and the odd half a banana. I do like the variety of hunter gatherer diet, with an occasional meat, fat and bone rampage, a nice lean mammal hunted and eaten with bare hands. |

Did they need to bench press 100kg? Probably not, so they ate what was required to function as humans needed to function..... |

Yes, but that's so low calorie it must carry a danger of shutting the metabolism down, which some say can be permanent. I must research that more. |

What do you think about high fat / bullet proof coffee first thing ? The idea is the fast sustains you through a fast and helps stay in a state of ketosis |

Omg this stuff keeps me full for HOURS. I use double cream and coconut oil instead of butter and mct as it's less greasy and doesn't make me feel nauseous. If you add cinnamon, almond extract and a little vanilla it tastes like a magical dessert treat |

I’m going to try this , im sceptical about the mct benefits and the upgraded beans is a con ( washing removes mycotoxins) but cream and coconut oil blended with a freshly ground double expresso sounds good |

Yeah I just use instant tbh, not a massive coffee snob (around taste or health benefits) so makes no difference to me. Although make sure you do actually blend it otherwise the oil just sits on top, I use a little electric milk frother so I don't have to clean the big blender each time. |

Haha yep and I can see why, years of calorie counting has never done anything for me apart from make me miserable and gain more weight but with keto the weight is flying off!
I'm 12 years down the line with my keto life, stick at it and I promise you will wonder why you only discovered the truth when you did (I'm 14 months carnivore now, life is soooo simple).

How long have you been losing for ?
And how much lost ?
So sorry "
Well that’s not true - I’ve lost 3 stone since March and that includes putting on muscle. I have the photos that prove it was fat that was lost too. Every body is different. |

This is the one thing I've found that's working for me and I am not going to let you ruin it "

Thank you!
I think he was just nitpicking my entire approach tbh, and it's not the first time which is why I got a bit inflamed.
It is pretty obvious that it's not possible to lose 5lbs of fat in 5 days... But I put that weight on pretty quickly so probably stored a lot of water with it which is what I've just lost. Explains why I feel much less bloated. Either way I'm happy to see the scales go down |

Glad you liked it! Yeah it's definitely something you need to sip and not gulp down haha. I would recommend not eating anything with it as you may put on weight that way, it's meant to be like a meal within itself. I use it to get through whole nights of studying (I'm a night owl) as the caffeine buzz and mental clarity it gives me is amazing compared to a normal cup of coffee. Also I tend to snack and graze a lot when I study which has totally stopped now because of how filling it is. |

All I know is eating fat doesn't make you fat. Eating an excess of carbs forces the body to use insulin, which turns into fat.
I like to eat clean (no processed foods) and it basically takes care of itself. You need fats, you need carbs in your diet. It's just getting the proportion right. |

"Just took a chance on Tesco brand low sugar protein powder as I have been struggling to find a nice tasting low carb powder that I don't need to gulp down as quick a possible while pinching my nose. "
Adding double cream will bust your fat and carbs. |

"Just took a chance on Tesco brand low sugar protein powder as I have been struggling to find a nice tasting low carb powder that I don't need to gulp down as quick a possible while pinching my nose.
Adding double cream will bust your fat and carbs. "
Don't know what kind of cream you're buying that's full of carbs... |

"Carbs are the new calories
Haha yep and I can see why, years of calorie counting has never done anything for me apart from make me miserable and gain more weight but with keto the weight is flying off!
How long have you been losing for ?
And how much lost ?
So sorry "
Your talking shit. |
