So it’s rare I take any sort of medication. I’d rather turn to natural remedies or exercise.
But.
I only manage 2 hours a night sleep so started taking some stuff the doc gave me to help relax and well, sleep. I’ve been taking it for nearly 2 months now, hasn’t helped at all with sleeping but makes my teeth ache and makes me paranoid as hell.... Now that wasn’t written on the box!!!
Mentioned it to my doctor today and her response was, oh yes, that has been known to happen but it’s rare...   |

Did the doc suggest anything else? If something isn't helping with the problem and it's throwing in new problems I'd be tempted to stop taking it, but ask your doc.... Hope you're feeling better soon my lovely.... |

I get side effects with anything and everything I have taken. I am genuinely scared of taking medication. If ever I take two paracetamol I always tell someone I’ve taken them - just in case.
I found out the hard way that I am allergic to some meds.
It’s a minefield!  |

That’s what I’ve taken for two months. Called Halcion. Stopped taking it since yesterday. |

I'm allergic to codine , play rugby ended up in hospital a few times and they have give me it makes me feel as though something is moving around under my skin |

I've had random side effects before, including allergy (ibuprofen).
Sertraline gave me periods like the Niagara Falls - SSRIs are known to affect platelet count, but my GP was bamboozled. They went back to normal when I stopped them.
Tramadol - never again! Was like going on a magic mushroom trip or something? Just astonishing how it made me feel. Yuck!
Pregabalin made me sleepy at first but I've got used to it and that only happens now if I don't eat at the same time. |

That stuff has some horrid side effects that you can find by googling. My bestie was on them for back spasms and in 2 weeks they played with her head so much she seriously was not herself at all, majorly twisted her mental health into a bad place! 3 days after stopping them she was starting to be herself again, 5 days later was totally thinking clearly again. scary stuff! |

i vaguely remember having similar side-affects when prescribed Zopiclone for insomnia, informed my GP, they hadnt heard of anybody having a similar reaction and suggested seeing a dentist, who in turn suggested sleeping with a mouthguard, but that only made me gag. Zopiclone also didnt help me sleep. As an alternative I tried listening to guided meditation which worked well & have listened to it every night since for 4 years as i didnt like how wild my mind went when i had insomnia and only getting a couple of hours sleep for 3 months. |

Ah okay, not sure why Dr would have you on them for that long to begin with, they're very addictive and apparently should be for short term use.
I listened to a podcast the other week about this very subject and the hidden pandemic of the amount of people on these types of meds. |

I can feel the difference after 24 hours of stopping but your message has eased my worry about getting back to being me. |

I had similar with Tramadol. I went back to the GP a week after surgery because I thought the GA still hadn’t worn off! |

Used to take zolpidem on long haul flights when I had a meeting in the morning and couldn’t get a bed, bizarre side effects like conversations with people while asleep I had no recollection of! Sleeping pills are quite well known for all kinds of strange side effects , stick to hot chocolate and a bath !  |

I was given the tramadol after I'd broken my shoulder and I took some just before setting off to the train, so I could go back to the fracture clinic. The fucking platform was moving like the ocean and I honestly have no idea how I made it to the hospital and back. Terrible stuff |

Being as you are willing to consider other alternative things have you tried below?

I find if someone is kind enough to rub my feet all over and then very gently rub beneath my anklebone that it makes me feel very sleepy. But that could be just weird ole me!!!!  |

I managed to find and download it as an audiobook (4 mp3 cd's) 4th cd is the guided meditation by Jon Kabat-Zinn, its designed for daytime listening, but helps me sleep. I think it may be that its another voice to listen to so maybe any audiobook may work just as well? |

I have huge problems with sleep which is resulting in 4 hours ish a night , I guess you e tried over the counter stuff? I have nytol which worked but gave me a bad headache so I’ve not tried again! I used to take mirtazipine which were great but I was sleepy during the day too , I really hope you find something that helps you x |

If you’re having trouble sleeping, you may want to try CBD oil. It’s basically medicinal but in oil form.
It’s also recently been legalised so you can get it over the counter in any pharmacy.
Basically my dad used to have trouble sleeping, and would keep waking up in the night, he had high blood pressure too which didn’t help, and sometimes would get pins and needles in his legs..
After a couple of days of taking the oil, literally he slept the whole night through..

I’ve tried EVERYTHING believe me but it is what it is. Thank you all for the recommendations and I think I will try the CBT oil as I’ve heard really good things. It’s scary isn’t it, the side effects all these so called painkillers have? |

And yes we put these things in our mouth due to doctors orders and it is a lottery as to what will happen x |

I’ve had so much hate mail for what I want to say and my doctor never believed me and treated me like a hysterical woman. Only when I went to a private doctor did I discover the truth. So many women are being told to have the hormonal coil fitted as if it’s the answer to all our prayers. It isn’t. It can cause serious mental problems and bring out dormant illnesses. If anyone is suffering from depression, delusions, bipolar episodes. Get it taken out! I recovered 100%. |

My favourite side effect written on my medication, halfway down the list of possible side effects, is “sudden and unexplained death”.
I feel this is more of an outcome than a side effect. And warrants being last on the list of possible side effects!  |

I've had side effects from meds that caused me to grind teeth in my sleep, woke up with blood on the pillow and a really bad jaw ache. No surprise I ended up changing meds |

I had some medication a while back that really upset my stomach.. but also had a side effect of making my wee turn orange and smell... they also made me have nose bleeds at random times. All known side effects but not pleasant.
I stopped after 3 months and vowed never to use again. |

I have to take meds for my brain tumour. There are only 4 on the market (dopamine agonists) to treat it and I have rubbish side effects from all of them. Basicially I have to pick which tablets' side effects I can tolerate the most and when it gets too bad, I switch! I am allergic to most meds and it's really annoying. |

Have you tried Phenergan (Promethazine) Incandescent?
I swear by it for insomnia.
1 tablet is enough for getting back to a sleep pattern, 2 knocks me of and 3 will have me out for 24 hours.

I was prescribed Phenergan which is an anti-histamine. I was too scared to take it as I was a single parent.
I do react to an anti-biotic & Tramadol makes me trippy which is scary

After a piercing got infected i was prescribed Flucloxacillin but after a couple of days it played havoc with my kindeys and stopped taking them.
My ex had an ACL reconstruction and was given Tramadol, She took 1 and was 'floating' and shaking so much she called them Tremor-dol and never took them again, not long after, i dislocated my shoulder and was in agony even after popping it back in, i took 1 Tramadol and it didnt even take the edge off the pain, the next time it dislocated 2 Tramadol made the pain just bearable, but no trippyness or shakes. Strange how people are affected differently. |

I took medication for migraines and my whole jaw went numb and I couldn’t stop drooling. Wasn’t on the box either, but a very rare side affect.
And tramadol gave me insomnia. I would be drowsy as hell, and couldn’t sleep. Was awful. |

I use homeopathy for most things, which I find very gentle and effective, with no side effects. There are quite a few options for sleeplessness. You'll need to make an appointment with a homeopath for the correct remedy.
I've also seen incredible results from curing a friend's chronic insomnia with hypn0tism.
