With the wealth of knowledge you guys have on hotels i hope you dont mind me asking but can anyone recommend a good hotel with excellent fast and unlimited WiFi in the rooms and a large desk I can set a pc and two monitors up on it?

Odd request, I know, but I'm having a damp proof course done here and want to carry on working during the day and hit the gym/sauna/steam room or if meets are back on take advantge of the room of an evening.

I would guess most hotel rooms would have decent wi fi? So pick anyone with a sauna or steam room and you're away

Is the location not important? Or the budget?

I’d highly recommend The Ritz.

It changes like the wind what can and can't open. At one stage they said 1st August was the date after which sauna and steam could open. I'm hoping they open by 20th Sept_mber.

As for location im in Liverpool but not really tied down to anywhere but will avoid places under threat of temporary lockdown if possible.

Budget wouldn't be a massive issue at the mo as it is a business trip and tax deductible which I need to put through or the taxman takes it anyway.

The most important thing is decent fast unlimited Wifi, a decent size desk or table to set up on and gym/spa/pool are extra. It'd be handy if there was something, or someone, to do in the area.

I had looked into abroad but decided the amount of equipment I'd need to cart over it's too much messing.

Where were you considering abroad that doesn't have quarantine or the threat of quarantine ?

Let's face Boris is making it up as he goes along he downloaded a random quarentune generator off Google Play and when someone pisses him off he hits the button. The guy is clueless and a coward to boot.

I imagine Sweden might be quarantine free.

What about an airbnb place.

There and to the left a bit

Would always recommend Jurys Inn - rooms are large - some with two doubles - not badly priced and some have gym/pool and they're reasonably priced

"What about an airbnb place."

I have looked but I'd need an entire place, privacy and no distractions, and for what I'd get for my money I'd be better off in a Hotel. Ta though.

I just had a look at the local one and can't see me sitting in the chairs they have in the room in the pic for 40 hour over the week as they look uncomfortable but thanks.

If the location and price isn't an issue then I don't think there is anywhere nicer than the Celtic Manor in Newport

No availability but it didn't look like it had the desk space or a decent comfortable office chair I need as I will be working five 8 hour days sat in the chair. It does look lovely though for when its all open again.

OP. I work in Hotel Management and can answer a bit of what you seek.

Hotels are at present operating at reduced capacity, usually opening up about 30-40% of available rooms, to allow stringent cleaning of and sanitizing of rooms between different guests. With most hotels, rooms will lay empty for at least 36 hours between departing & arriving guests.

Most of the big chain hotels and groups will have the required desks already in bedrooms. It's rare these days for hotels NOT to have WIFI, but strengths vary.

As for Gyms, Steam Rooms and Saunas, a lot of hotels aren't necessarily operating them, instead taking advice from their local authorities. I know, via contacts, that some hotels which normally operate Spas, have had to bring in such detailed cleaning regimes, that it's not been cost effective enough to continue, and said facilities have been withdrawn.

Others have found that visiting numbers are seriously cut back and operating hours too have been shortened.

In short, what you may have experienced prior to COVID19, isn't necessarily going to be the same now.

I had a look but I need a decent depth desk in the room and looking at the deluxe luxury room's 360 tour it won't take my equipment. I need to set two monitors on the desk and have decent workspace in front of it. Think four seater dining room table depth. The chair looked better than some of the others though.

I spotted one locally called The Suites Hotel. The location stinks but the desk and chair may work. Anyone, been there?

Suggest looking at the review sites. Not necessarily Trip Advisor as they can often attract 'reviews' placed by the hotel owners.

Instead, look at the major Hotel Booking agencies which have their own Review sections built into their website, from which reviews are a general safe bet by legitimate guests.

Thanks. I was getting that from quite a few of them. A lot of the desk space would be a squeeze with a laptop and I do need the depth to work. Its a month til I go so i do have a little time to play with but as you say forced reduced capacity limits availability for me. Thanks though.

Dubai & Nottingham

Marriot’s or Radisson Blu have all that they both have apps you can search. Choose one with a business lounge, blag an upgrade to a suite and get free food and drinks 6-8pm.

The best way to get the free upgrade without points is book a regular double and then check in early 12-1 , after cleaning, before busy check in, upgrades are always done at check in

By the sounds of it you want an office not a hotel. Maybe rent one out?

I need the marriage of both as the house won't be an option as the damp proof course is in the room I would normally sleep in as is the client's equipment. I would need to pack up the equipment each evening if I had it in an office and as I need somewhere to sleep that week a hotel kills 2 birds with one stone.
