Ukraine should be weaker without their legend Sheva.
It would be nice for Cole, Lescott, Johnson, Young, Welbeck & Walcott to score and take the smile off Oleg Blokhins racist face
We're going to go 2-1 Engerlund |

Leave Rooney off, and sub him on out of desperation in the last 20 minutes if needed. His 'tournament' performances are woeful, just look at his dire performance in the last world cup! But, if Woy ( see what i did there ;p ) Hodgson does bow to peer pressure to let him start as all England managers do, then you have to swap Andy '50 pence piece head' Carroll for him as young Welbeck is having to good of a tournament for him to lose his place.
Need to get rid of John Terry too, he looks like he's running in treacle every time he's chasing a ball. |

I don't think any of the so called world class stars have pwnd this tournament yet. I reckon the stage is set for Rooney to grab a few headlines.
I just hope the headlines are not because he went ape shit and get sent off yet again.
A 1-0 win, Rooney scores over head kick from half way line. |

"rooney should be a late`ish sub for me. we have been doing really well upfront so far and dont wanna fcuk up the harmony in the team"
I'd echo that. Rooney on his game is awesome, but when he's not playing well he's invisible. I'd play Carroll up front with Welbeck, Young on the wing, bring Rooney on with 1/2 an hour to go at which time we'll either need to shake the team up if we're not playing well but if we're winning he can get a good run out. |

Can a rugby wallah who knows Diddley about football add something?
Rooney is a national liability and still needs to prove himself. So I'd keep the side that showed such ambition and spirit against and reward THOSE pleayers rather than Rooney. I'd have Rooney on the bench as a 'supersub' although our last substitute against Sweden did the business and could be played like that again.
Gerrard and Carroll finally gelled and that goal will be one of the best of the tournament so why change that bit of the team?
To play for England you have to compete for your place. Rooney f***s up when on the International stage while the other guys all 'turned up' and played like Lions and played FOR the team and AS a team. Hodgson should be very careful he doesn't lose that vital yet invisible ingrediant. Don't forget these are cynical overpaid professionals and if someone who played so well last time out is binned for Rooney others may say 'well f**k Rooney we'll make him look stupid'. |

I'd only play Young on the right wing though, where his ability to sprint past full-backs can be put to good use. He was dogshit on the left, we had no width on that side as he constantly cut inside into Gerrard territory. |

"rooney on bench for me! hes not world class, never will be, then theres is temperament!..we dont need 10 men on the pitch!"
Temperament? He went all season without getting a yellow card until the penultimate game of the season, and yes I am a utd supporter. |

If Gerrard was any sort of captain he'd have told Young where he wanted him to play. I don't rate Gerrard at all actually, certainly not as a captain. I hate to say it but Terry made a more dominating captain than Gerrard ever will. |

I imagine Roy had already told Young what his role was, but because he's gash with his left foot, he felt compelled to cut inside as its tricky for him to cross with his left.
Play him on the right by all means, but I'd be selecting either Oxlade-Chamberlain or Downing on the left to give us more width. |

Well you can look at the talent Villa has created in Ashby Young, James Milner and Stuart Downing, who were all crap before joining Villa!..must be good for the likes of Wankchester United, Moneychester City and the Bindippers to sign em. |

Erm...I'll give you Ashley Young. But Milner was decent at Newcastle and Leeds. And when Downing was at boro he made the England team and had a 10 mill bid from spurs knocked back so you hardly had the monopoly on those lads lol! |

"Got to start with Rooney..remember we were 2-1 down at one point against the Swedes and then had to chase the game."
And thats what the TEAM did and won well. I just have this nagging feeling Rooney will upset the team spirit that is clearly there, get frustrated by a perceived 'lack of service' and then lash out and we will be a 10 man team again. |

Lol, yep, Downing had a glittering England career whilst at middlesborough...NOT!, and Milner was a loose cannon, only Villa could tame and bring out his ability. Ashley Young was nurtured from championship Watford, straight to international level. Remember, all three were playing for England while at Villa, not just because they moved to other clubs. VTWD. |

"My money is on Rooney being so desperate to impress that he lashes out and gets sent off"
We are most certainly praying for that event to take place here!!!
We think what pisses some people off with Lord Rooney is that, lets say for instance Lescott, Johnson or Parker score 2 goals for England tonight, they will get a big back page headline......but if Lord Rooney scores 2 goals it will be front page headlines with some calling for his immediate knighthood!!!! |

But both went through under 21s to the full team, and were playing for England before moving to Villa weren't they so I'd hardly cite them as examples of Villa's influence.
I actually think Villa do well at bringing youngsters through with both Ashley Young and Gabby Agbonlahor being good examples, but I'd argue that Downing and Milner would have done equally well somewhere else. |

Downing & Milner were good players, long before going to Villa, hence the high fees paid for them. Boro should have let Downing go when Spurs bid, as we had a better player, in Johnson, being kept out of the first team. Downing went, as he wasn't going to re-sign, while his sale was so late, that a pissed-off Johnson would not either. Why Johnson was not picked ahead of Downing, only Arthur C Clarke can explain. |

God bless 'um I had a great night. I loved the contrasts of piss poor defending and then the brief moments of brilliance. I love the feeling of fading hope and then the sudden cries of joy (along with nearly flinging a burger across the room). The feeling of naughtiness for their goal not being allowed... even though it shouldn't have been really ... but payback is still a bitch. The spilt drinks and the tension as the last few minutes are played.
A great night indeed..... the only problem is I now keep thinking it's a Saturday night.... or now Sunday morning. |

You're gonna have to do it all again on Sunday evening.
Only this time we're playing the Italians who invented the triple forward roll with a double salko back flip accompanied by piercing cries of "Fa fangule, ref, 'e 'urt a my a leg! Yellow, yellow, bastardo!" |

looks liek you lost ya money mate.
methinks you need to check you premier league stats... Rooney had 1 yellow card all season and that was in the 37th game and undeserved.
people make so much of his temperement.
he has matured a lot these last 2 years,
yes he was rusty and no his possesion wasnt brilliant but you can never question his commitment and work rate. its not often you see strikers tracking back and tackling when they have lost possesion but Rooney always tries to win it back. He needed that game to loosen up so he can put a brace past italy in the nexy round.
and no i am not a manu fan either... |

Ok, so most of us got it wrong and said Rooney wouldn't score.. but let's look at it objectively, from THAT distance he couldn't do anything BUT score. My mum would have nodded that one in and she's 67!
We scraped through our group, 1 draw against the French, a hard fought win against the Swedes and we only just beat the host nation with the assistance of a sympathetic 4th official. We won't be afforded such luck against Italy, nor the Germs in the SF if we beat Italy - and then there will be Spain waiting for us in the Final (assuming they beat France & Portugal)
Having said all that, I'll deliriously take three 1-0 wins from this point on. Ta. |

Being an England supporter is a bit like being a teenager when their mum has found the secret booze stash you have been saving up for the overnighter at your mates house... and she pours it down the sink with the semi-blocked plughole. With only a washing-up sponge to hand, what can you do but slowly watch all your hopes and dreams drain away..... and soak up some of the good stuff whilst you can. |

the goal was easy enough to score!, but it showed he had the poachers instinct to be in that position in the first place, but whether it a spectacular 25-30 yarder,or a penalty kick they all count at the end of the match and i bet there are a more easy goals to score if only instinct would put you in the position. |
