So I've been prescribed a new medication which I have to self-inject and I've been staring at this sucker for about 30 mins trying to work up the balls to do it. I don't think it's going to happen though so I was wondering whether there were any lovely nurses or people with experience of home injections on here who would be able to tell me if I could just take it along to a blood test I'm having tomorrow and ask the nurse to administer it for me?
Note I am usually perfectly fine with needles when it comes to blood tests, vaccines etc but this is one of those click release ones that basically impales you and I'm sorry but I don't remember signing up for any GoT level violence in my life  |

Surprised no one showed you how to do it they gave me a orange to practice on before I got it right ..mine wasn’t a click and release tho so sorry I can’t help you x |

It was all dealt with and prescribed over the phone (social distancing) so I was given a video to watch on how to administer it. They didn't say what it would feel like though, which is the part that scares me |

I'm okay thank you, it's not for anything too serious and it's only once per week, I just want someone else to rip the band aid off for me so I know what to expect and can then do it myself from then on |

Who prescribed it?
The nurse may not be keen to administer if she/he has no prescription to go from (o wouldn’t administer anything without a valid prescription available) |

The nurse may not be keen to administer if she/he has no prescription to go from (o wouldn’t administer anything without a valid prescription available)"
The same doctor who ordered my blood test. Would it help if I took the whole box along, as it has that sticker with my prescription details on it? |

I had one of those injections when having fertility treatment. I had to inject into my tummy or thigh. I also had the normal syringe to inject.
In all honesty it really isn't that bad once you have done it a couple of times.
I totally understand and remember the apprehension you feel.

I had to have blood thinners after my surgery a couple of years ago, the first one is the hardest, Honestly,i it gets much easier but the first time you have to just go for it or you'll always be nervous.
Is it in your stomach? |

It can be in either my stomach, thigh or back of my arm but I have to rotate every time. |

I’m afraid the phlebotomist won’t be able to give it to you. Phlebotomists are not trained to give medication. You will need to contact the Dr who prescribed it and ask them to organise someone to do it for you or ask a family member/friend to do it. A registered nurse wouldn’t do it as they don’t have access to your notes etc. If you were given something wrong it would be the registered nurse that would be struck off not the Doctor that prescribes it. |

Very surprised they've not shown you how, my son is type 1 diabetic since he was 7 and we got to practice on an orange initially, as previously mentioned by someone above. Hope you get the courage to do it. x |

A little glass of wine is a good idea! 
I would be really anxious too, but I think once you've done it once you will find it a breeze. Please remember that it's safe otherwise they wouldn't have you do it alone.
My dad used to have injections that and they didn't hurt him at all and once he did the first one he was like a pro at it. I also have injected my mum a few times with huge needles and I was so scared but she didn't even feel it in her stomach.
Also, if you have anyone in your house to stay with you and encourage you then I would ask them to help support you. X |

Honestly, once the first one is done you'll wonder what you worried about. There's a very tiny sharp jab then it disappears, I know with blood thinners you can get a 'burning' sensation but it isn't painful, just annoying. |

I'm currently injecting blood thinners after surgery, second time I've had to do it. Honestly, they really don't hurt that much, there's a sting as the drug goes in. Hope you pluck up the courage to do it and thanks for reminding me to go and do mine  |

Male half here, I have to do the same type of injection every fortnight. I find it easier to stretch the skin in the area I am injecting, stomach or thigh,and just press and wait for the click. It's a little sting, nothing major,and like everyone else has said,once you've done it the first time,it's easy |

There's a reason my only options are either do it myself or ask the phlebotomist haha nobody I live with is especially good at not making me feel more stressed

Someone gave me a tip which seems to work for me, If injecting into the stomach, grab the fold of flab if you e got any, hold it firmly and you will see the blood vessels and also white dots. Aim for the white dots. Also injecting it ever so slightly at an angle. I always take a deep breath then exhale as it’s going in.
They do say it gets easier but I still find it hard going sometimes and my stomach is black and blue. I think a lot of it is mind over matter x |

If it’s thinners you need to pinch, it’s important it doesn’t go into the muscle x |

I didn't I decided against it as I realised at the last minute that it could affect the results of the blood test I had done today. So I managed to get out of it haha. But I will be trying again tonight. |

when you say click release ones. do you mean an auto injector, rather than a hyperdermic needle and plunger?
the auto injectors as the easiest ones to use as they are litteraly press against body and they do it themselves. |

I have to inject and the 1st time I was like you but I promise it doesn't hurt at it's really easy.
Also if its something you have to do regularly you will have to do it sometime. X |

Iv just read further up that its once a week.
I'm curtain that its the same as i have.
Its really easy to admister and you can't really do it wrong.
I injected today, its my 5th time and I promise it will be ok. |
