Did the meal come with an alcoholic drink included? |

Yes it did but the price without an alcoholic drink was still off the mark |

It could have been that the price WITH an alcoholic drink was already at a discounted rate/special offer.
If you took the alcoholic drink off and put a different drink on then the meal would have shot up to "normal" price and the gov discount will have only worked on that bit

We’ve used the discount in Wetherspoons and it worked fine. You get 50% off food and soft drinks Monday -Wednesday up to a maximum of £10 per person. If you Want to check, add your food and drink into the basket on the app it should show you exactly what you will pay before you checkout. That might explain what happened.
Plus, on Mondays some Alcoholic drinks are discounted too.

Right, I don't work at wetherspoons so couldn't tell you their offers but I do know they do stuff like pie n a pint for say £10
The pie on it's own would be £9.99 but with the drink it's a tenner, so in effect you're getting the pint for a penny.
The government discount won't work on alcohol so you'd not get your pie n pint for a fiver, it would automatically take the discount off yer pie for a fiver but you'd then pay full price for your pint |
