Advice please, FAB people!

Has anyone sold any of their unwanted gold jewellery for scrap?

If yes, which firm did you use?

Would you recommend them?

If you would not recommend them, why not?

Any good or bad experiences you would like to share?

Got a few things to sell, rather than to waste my time via eBay.

have you looked at a comparison site - I am selling a phone and found a site that compares all the places where you can sell or trade them in - just a thought - I say I'm selling the phone - I'm actually giving it away to a friend but just wanted to see how much it was worth - quite surprised but the friend is worth every penny I won't get lol

Try The Money Shop but open an account there first as you'll get a better rate at times.

Mrs Artful was going to throw some old broken gold bracelets, odd earings, old backs for earings, all old useless tat and ended up with 250 quid!

DON'T post go local you will get a better price. Max will be 75% of the rate on the day though

Btw check online gold prices first and work out how much you should get so you have a good idea of the worth of the gold.

what ever you do dont use any of the postal services best to try a local jeweller ..I have a friend who is a bullion dealer and he gives me great prices but hes in london

Try a local jewellers, they tend to give a better rate.

Do not use a company where you have to post. A certain onme offered me £84.00. which when I refused they upped to £300. I asked for it back out of principal. Took it to a local reputable jewellers and got £860.00

from a town near you

i did this a couple of years ago,with broken jewelry,earings etc,but used a dealer i know

he weighed it and gave me the going rate at the time, £200 pound for something i was going to throw away

I went to the Jewellery Quarter just after Christmas with what I though was a load of old tat and came back with almost £350 -

Take them off fleabay and scrap them you'll get more for it.

Heard Tesco's started doing this, and were working on a minimal profit margin. Don't know if they still do though

i used Lois Jewellery Ltd the Jewellery Quarter in Birmingham well worth the ride down to there for what the other places give u i went 120 miles and saves 400 for that what the post places give u as lois smelt there gold if u google it and see what they will give u in there gold meter if u know how much grams u got or about hope that helps

I went into Warren James with mine last week. Thought I might have gotten about £100 if I was lucky. I walked out with a smile and a purse with £327 in it. Result.

If you have an independent local jewellers I would go there...

I had loads of old gold that was broken etc and all the comparason sites etc were around the same...

The independent local place gave me just over double

keep them on ebay.....scrap gold fetches more there than anywhere else. just weigh ur gold and remember its fetching around ten quid a gram so you can work out what its actually worth.

Update:

Sold a couple of items off eBay, scrapped the one that did not sell, along with some bits and piece, and I am a happy bunny for what I managed to get out of them.

Result!

I went to the Money Shop, and the young gent behind the counter was most patient and helpful.

I shall return with a box of silver items next week.

Just because you get 1 quote, and it cheers you up, don't feel pressured to sell it to them.

As with getting quotes for home improvements, get a range of quotes, from various types of sources.

Realise this isn't giving you the one internet site that I recommend, but I don't have that, as I always vary who I deal with. Also, anyone who pressures you into a 'this price, but only if you accept it now' type scenario, isn't reputable enough to be dealing with either - move on.
