During a recession men prefer curvier women.

First of all, I'm biased and I always loved curvy women.
A research, (Playboy Playmate Curves: Changes in
Facial and Body Feature Preferences Across
Social and Economic Conditions, 2004)
has investigated ideals of beauty and how these ideals have changed across time, they discovered that during a recession men prefer curvier women.
We just had the worse recession in recent history so we will enjoy curves even more. 
Hopefully the new ideals of beauty will match what really men wants and women will be proud of their curves. |

There shouldn't be an ideal of what beauty is. This is what ends in people feeling inadequate. It's amazing that people have their preferences. However, they are preferences not societal ideals.
Ideals exclude those who don't hit those targets. Why not celebrate the variety? And personally I celebrate all bodies. |

According to a recent thread men have always preferred curvy women and only date less curvy ones because of peer pressure.
I think it would be a sad world if women's body shapes were determined by the state of the economy and what men want rather than how they naturally are. |

I'm presuming it's because we think we will need to feed them less as they have more reserves and so they are the cheaper option when money is tight. However imo this may be floored thinking as in my experience it's very difficult to stop a woman who is accustomed to eating cake from eating cake. Hopefully an economist will be along soon with some statistics. |

The ideal should be closer to reality instead of a fake representation of it.
On average women are curvy.

More than peer pressure, media and advertising want to sell beauty products to women that are already beautiful by brainwashing them until they are insecure.
The average playmate’s waist is 53% of her hips, the average fashion model has a 46% ratio, the average US undergrad a 75%. |

I don't think beauty ideals are what men really want. Men aren't just one amorphous, hive mind blob of sameness. I do think that they represent a sort of average ideal of what's hot at the time? Or maybe it's just that those who have the power to depict what is decide this is. All through history there have been differing shapes and sizes that have been held up as beautiful so I do understand why now won't be any different.
In an ideal world, women of all shapes and sizes would be held up as beautiful and when we look back on this time that will be shown. |

It's just one of those things, like women finding men more attractive when they're ovulating. Doesn't mean tastes actually change. I love the variety of bodies on here and enjoy playing with people of all shapes and sizes. Like tall skinny guys, slim strong girls, women with big boobs, really fit rugby player types, ladies with fabulously pert bums, curvy guys who are confident in their own skin.....wait, I think I might just be slutty |

The beauty ideals are always changing, however I think today is way more inclusive than it used to be before when media and press imposed an unrealistic model.
It won't be different, probably closer to reality. |

I thought I was ok before the lockdown, curvy but a little bit toned because I walk to work every day and did a lot of walking generally because I don't drive and was going out more. But since March, I've been off work, like a lot of us and just haven't had the exercise, so a bit of stress because of being in with family constantly and normal social life because of cancellation of football, again for us all social life was put on hold, I don't like the way I look now as gained a lot of weight. This isn't a woe is me post just joining in |

I agree, however beauty ideals are socially constructed, I just wanted to point out that during a recession individuals stop following those ideals and get closer to reality.
Maybe they are not as brainwashed by ads as during normal times. |

I think what the op meant by social ideal in the op statement was not an "ideal" per se
I read it as
Over a number of decades of asking Questions to a number of men regarding their preference or (personal ideal)
Let's bear in mind it's almost a daily fab forum regular to openly declare ones preference
Its come to light that statistically during a recession a change in the average preference has been noted
This data is not trying to set an ideal but report on its findings regards the statistical preference of men who read certain publications
53 percent of men do not like to see visible abs on a lady (made up statistic)
Gets reported as
Men do not like visible abs
Personally I did not take this thread as any comment upon what size or shape a lady should be or even what size or shape (men) want them

Its suggested statistically (that means you are included but a minority) that a ladies preference changes during ovulation (if yours does not that does not mean the statis6are wrong)
The concept is fascinating
Thus in the similar vein
Not all men will change there preferences
However if the data is correct a significant number will during a recession
I feel it a genuinely interesting question why this may be true
And no I absolutely do not think it has anything to do with cake
One complete guess is security rightly or wrongly a man may feel more secure with one preference than another

My observation is that during a recession or when desperate, people will say any old shite for attention..... ....I like all sorts of women whether my pockets are full or empty and usually it depends more on the curves between their ears....   |

Statistically there will be a majority
However out of some 20 million men if the split is 60 percent do not like your shape 8 million still do
