"Do you get a syringe down a cats throat. She has to have liquid antibiotics, she wont take them on her food and im supposed to stick the syringe in her mouth and shoot it down her throat.

Don't know if I can post the link but if you Google (other search engines are available!) 'ways to give a cat medicine' there is a great page on wikihow.com that includes step by step pics. It looks very tricky! Good luck |

We liquid worm all our cats. Swaddle her in a towel, then sit her up in your lap whilst holding her mouth open woth one hand. Pop the syringe in as far as you can and shoot it. Then give her treats and cuddles for after. Goood luck! |

Yep towel will restrain them, then it's a case of being firm and forcing their mouth open, get another person to help you. small drops at a time and don't tilt their head back. Get it on their tongue and they should naturally swallow. |

I have it on good authority he soaks the towel in chloroform
Hope you manage it, but whenever mine have to have antibiotics I ask the vet to give one of the long-lasting injections instead of tablets or liquids as I've always found it nigh on impossible - it's a bit more expensive, but worth it for my peace of mind and saving my skin |

Yes best being a 2 man job,I've always tilted the head back, eased the mouth open by putting my finger n thumb into the cheeks keep it open this way n then massage the throat so it swallows n don't gag/retch it back out
Give it love n a fave drink or good afterwards to get rid of the taste
Good luck |

Just make sure you put the syringe on top of the tongue - otherwise whatever you're squirting in runs the risk of missing the target (the back of the throat) - definately a two person job. One to hold the cat and one to squirt the syringe.
And apply plasters to numerous scratches afterwards!! |

I wonder how it went?
that cat is going to snub you for at least an hour afterwards and run away everytime it will see a towel in the future. Ah I miss having cats. Great creatures! |

Yes ! .. wrap her in a towel perhaps. If you really cant give them ask if you can have a longer acting injection instead. |

Good luck with wrapping cat in towel tp start with.....sure my likkle sod knows whats coming when i try to do that....hence i know let the vet give her a long lasting injection like said above....easier,safer and to me works better cos those pussies are good at pretending to swallow then spitting it back oot |

My vet showed me how to open my cat's mouth in order to pop a worming tablet into her.
Till her head as far back as possible so that she loosens her jaw before opening it.
With regard to syringe, I would use the same technique to open her mouth, then place the syringe to the side of its cheek, then squeeze the content out.
Have fun!

Jumper sleeve, cat down head out, sausage cat but no claws. Open mouth with fingers and squirt |

Remember, your state of mind will influence your pet's too. So, do everything you can to make sure that you're ready, as relaxed as possible, and don't startle your cat, by pouncing etc - be smooth, as gentle and soothing as possible. The towels do work, as good disabling tools, and help prevent scratches.
If your cats a little hungry, he/she is possibly going to be more friendly, though depends on their disposition. |

why not just lace some tuna with the medicine (or whatever your cats partial to!)?
does it absolutely need to be administered that way or would it be good enough if your cat ingested it in whatever form?

I was serious.
And for those that worm their cats .. droncit now has a pippette wormer to use on back of neck for tape worm ^monthly and advocate pippettes cover fleas and other worms done monthly so no need to hold them down. |

near the sounds of the wimborne quarter jack! |
Mine needed a daily dose of pain killer for three months and I had some soft cod roe to put the medication on! She loved that at first but gradually got bored of it!
One thing I`ve found out to my cost - don`t bother with Bob Martin stuff that you get from the super-racket as it`s total crap! If I have to use anti-flea treatment, only the Frontline stuff you get from the vets or good pet shops works. Yes, it`s more expensive but it works and it lasts too! |

Absolutely agree bob martins is rubbish..
we recommend Advocate now as it protects against the lung worm (spread by slugs and snails..) crawling over toys in garden.. Our branch lost an 18mth old lab with it.. |
