Thinking after a conversation with my parents going around in my head. What was the last piece of advice your family gave you, was it good advice, are you following it?

My mom told me to always go for my smear tests. She was in a hospital bed waiting for a hysterectomy at the time.

That's definitely good advice, and I'm sorry about the circumstances

My dad said "you have to live until you die" I try to follow it.

When I was a teenager he gave me most useful advice on how to find a boyfriend. He told me to go to a swimming pool with lifeguards and pretend to get into trouble. The handsome lifeguard would rush to my aid and I could wow him with my charms. . Years later he gave the same advice to our daughter .

He also has invaluable advice for dieters. Make a big stew and dilute it with water.

In a ball gown because that's how we roll in N. Devon

My dad very recently told me that I have to go out and live my life as I'm getting old.

I'm being unusually sentimental on this one.

My dad has told me he's proud of me in the last three months more than he has in the previous thirty years.

Last time we spoke he told me not to waver from my values and continue to care for myself and others. That it would be our values that gets us through. And that all I can do is the right thing as best I can.

I cried after I got off the phone.

my dad makes me laugh. This advice from a man who still weighs the same in his mid nineties as he did at 30 and has never dieted in his life

My dad always taught us to not look back because we aren't going that way but at the moment it's all we are doing because it's all we have left of him. He would tell us off for that though.

First house I bought, my mum's sage advice was "I don't know much about houses but never buy one with a tree growing out of the roof"

Wise words!

Fell about laughing at the time and still makes me smile now

Don’t move to the ‘north’. Very glad I ignored it!

Last piece of advice from my mum was not to tell my best friend what to do or "I told you so" but to be there if a particular situation falls through.

My dad always used to say fight fire with fire

And that’s why he was fired from the fire brigade.

The last piece of advise from my step dad was to tell me that I shouldn't get and pic and mix from Wilko's as they would make me fat.

Yes he's a bullying dick.

My mum has been recently diagnosed with cancer. I have been keeping strong for her, my family and following her lead.

Tonight my sister messaged me and told me to just allow myself to feel what I feel, when I feel it.

My dad: Girl, only 5% leave. Give him your heart by all means but don't waste your life on excuses and maybes
