Under the Duvet

The two guys who founded the brand have always had a social conscience and been vocal about it.

Fair enough.

They don't have anything to do with the company anymore. They sold it circa 2000. Looks like big companies are reversing their old policies of staying silent on political issues incase they offend anyone and damage sales. No doubt brought about by the recent 'silence is complicit' views expressed recently. I wonder if they'll tackle some of the major ongoing issues of human rights breaches in the Middle East as well.

Ben snd jerrys fought a lawsuit in America to give their migrant workers such luxuries as a proper bed , clean water, electricity in their accommodation, and a minimum of 8 hours between shifts.

All while displaying the fair trade sign on the cartons. Woke hypocrisy at it's finest.

Virtue signalling at its most cringeworthy. A giant brand now owned by unscrupulous multinational Unilever, with plenty of immoral practices in the past. Stick to making ice cream.

I’ve always found it funny how I perceive the value of things. I’ll think nothing of spending £5 on a pint of beer that last 20 minutes, yet I’ll bulk at spending a similar amount on something that might last days. Silly logic.

Well, there can be many 'truths' but facts are facts. It's s fact that certain people celebrate if these poor people drown in these boats. It's also a fact that we are incredibly fortunate in this country to not have had any conflict in this land. So much so that it is unimaginable to people, hence why they lack compassion for these people.

Near Okehampton.

I cannot imagine anyone would take any delight when anyone dies crossing the Channel.

The point being they are fleeing France.

People have fled their own War ravaged Countries in desperation. They have travelled through Countless Countries, Through the whole of France to try and come here.

Clearly our Benefit system is the big attraction.

We are a over crowded Island as it is. We cannot keep opening the door. The Rest of Europe don’t seem to be offering very much.

I do wonder if England should do the same.. virtually every homeless alcoholic in London seems to have a Glasgow accent.. let's put them on the train to Paris..

And as for the men on dingies.. free passage up to Hadrian's Wall and over that border to Scotland..

"I cannot imagine anyone would take any delight when anyone dies crossing the Channel.

The Rest of Europe don’t seem to be offering very much."

Hey, possibly it's because they have family here already, or they speak the language. Which is more than can be said for the Brits who move to Spain each year!

You may also want to look at the numbers of refugees that European countries have taken in.

Well one difference is that the Hong Kong applicants will be legally here. The people fleeing war torn France on the other hand...

It wasn’t a point of trying to offend anyone just a point of view. We are not so out raged by it all, just making an observation.

You make a point of illegal immigrants having family here and they speak the Language? Really is that it.

I didn’t say others were not taking these poor people in, just said they don’t seem to be offering very much.

Not sure what the Point is you are making about people Legally moving to Spain has to do with it. Don’t think many leave here to take advantage to any benefits in Spain.

Hong Kong is entirely different and is a legal process whatever your political view is.

Well, you said we are overcrowded. Yet, you don't mind potentially 3 million taking residency here. Kinda makes no sense.

And if they are economic migrants, so what? Is trying to make a better life a crime now? Better get used to it, gonna be a lot more immigration after Brexit, just won't be from Europe...

No pun intended but a drowning man clutches at straws pretty much sums up Belle and Sebastian's argument. To bring Spain and Hong Kong into it is all smoke and mirrors. And I don't buy into the family here bullshit. I have family in Oz I have not seen in decades. If they claim asylum in France and become French they can live here legally ... Nobody forces them into these boats so don't expect a wave (no pun) of sympathy ...

They literally pay their money and take their chance...

Amazing, you have all the answers. You want to trip us up on points that we haven’t made, but don’t want to comment on certain things you have said. Ie the Spanish migration or all the Illegal immigrants have family here nd speak our language.

The point is Illegal. We are not saying things because we are bloody minded, it must be dreadful for them, but we are not a bottomless pit

It is a Fact we are overcrowded. It isn’t a fact that 3 million people will be coming here from Hong Kong.

The patrolling with more boats and talk of the navy is a political soundbite. The reality is that as soon as a boat is deemed in distress under international law that another vessel must give aid. That's why the trafficers give them fuck all petrol.Best thing is to stop all patrols in my view and just stick to the last three miles.

Let Belle and Sebastian set up a soup kitchen on Southend beach and apologise on behalf of the UK government for their lack of action and tell them that Boris missed the last Cobra meeting about their plight. They might even get free sponsorship from Ben and Jerry's ice cream. People blame the traffickers. Its like blaming the drug dealers. It takes two to tango.

Of course, Belle and Sebastiy have plenty of room to put them up on their salary just short of 60k which they intimated was a modest sum.

Not a modest sum,but not enough to buy the mansion you seemed to think we lived in.

Apart from Meghan Markle, people looking to make a better life, people who don't want nuclear weapons, people trying to stop rainforest being cut down, people who don't want whales to be killed.....we something about communism....
