Right. This is just my preference and feel free to opine. Sometimes things are just not right and I think anyone who disagrees is a liar!
Weetabix chocolate minis recommended serving on the back of the box is 40g!!! What a disgustingly small portion is that!
Have you ever weighed that out? It’s like 4 spoons full. I weighed out what I would usually eat which is a bowel full and it’s like 250g (600-700 calories!).
I’ve started to get back into my fitness and don’t want to give up cereal too much (I often go all out then crash and burn).
But seriously who has 40 GRAMS of cereal for breakfast?! |

"It's about portion control which lots of people have lost sight of.
Ultimately its a recommendation so you can ignore it "
Yep I am just controlling my portions now and not taking it too far (macro counting, daily weighing, charting it out etc).
As for the recommendation. Oh yes I do ignore it but it will have to be my cheat breakfast once a week haha |

"Ha !
Years ago when I wanted to calorie count. I weighed out 30g of bran flakes...
They didn't cover the bottom of a small bowl.
Scary.
As I said on another thread..... they are fattening "
They really are! Yolk free omelettes are my healthy breakfast and can be done up in a variety of ways.
I always think PE in schools should have some work on nutrition. Unless you actively go and learn you don’t realise so many things about food and it’s affects. Biscuits with tea is another killer! |

I was quite surprised at the difference between my size portion of pasta and the recommended amount. A packet of linguine lasts a lot longer nowadays |

"I have this issue with crunchy nut cornflakes. My bowlful is more like half the damn box "
Haha yes I understand that!! In university my friend and I would buy our own box of Krave and eat it throughout the night. We weren’t sober but that’s only a partial excuse |

That is definitely one benefit!!! No wonder the boxes for cereal are so damn small! They actually last a while if you eat well less! |

Exactly you don’t need the chocolate... you add other things from your daily ration to liven them up
Although I do like weetabix just as they are |

I think you're right... We should have a lot more consistent content and context in schools (and not that 5 a day fruit nonsense) but most importantly in our homes of what we put in our bodies... Having said that both of my kids had plenty of great information at their schools but it didn't mean much too them at the time , nor resonate with them until they chose it to.... Which was about 5 years later. One of them has an amazing healthy diet, the other one eats and drinks all kinds of crap...
You can lead a horse to water and all that. |

I was looking for someone to support me gnashing as much cereal as I wanted! But like most women you’re the one talking sense I’ll slowly become accepting of eating small portions haha.
As for weetabix on it’s own. Aye it’s not bad. But a cousin of mine was unforgivable. He put butter on weetabix and ate them without milk. Like a biscuit!! |

That is definitely true as well! I think living healthy is the key. Life is too short to be obsessed with it as I was once upon a time. Let myself go even though I am clued up on it. I guess for kids it’s the first time they’re experiencing all kinds of taste. They’re not going to want veggies for breakfast |

"1 normal Weetabix brick needs 2 pints of milk just to get it wet. "
They’re dense buggers aren’t they, especially if you have two or three stacked up. I used to know a good ratio of milk which over a few minutes would soak in until it was perfectly moist. Broke that bowel though and never found another that I connected so well with. |

Carbs are the devil. If you add chocolate flavour and more sugar and make them look healthy by calling them cereal, then what's to be expected....?
Plain cereals aren't great either if you're trying to keep weight off.... |

Yep thats it simply put. Cereal should be seen as a snack in my opinion. Having it regularly for breakfast just doesn’t make sense with such a small portion that is required to keep it a healthy amount. Would rather choose a savoury option which will keep me full up until, or even, after lunch! |
