Having seen that the government plans to give police the right to hand out on them spot fines for careless driving. Do people think this will have any effect on road safety.
Personally I have my doubts especially given my local police's tenancy to turn a blind eye to lots of offences. I regularly see cyclists ride past police officers on the pavements without even being stopped and challenged.
I was also unfortunate enough to be injured in a motor accident a few years back where it was a clear case of dangerous driving from the other party. Whilst I was waiting to be bundled off in an ambulance I saw the police take statements from several witnesses but mysteriously these statements all got lost so the CPS decided not to prosecute.
Therefore I don't expect too much from this. |

The police will only prosecute 'dead certs' anything that is easy and handed to them on a plate. The CPS is the same, they don't want to waste time and money on cases that might be open to debate.
What they will do is prosecute any case that is certain, such as where the law has been broken but no crime has been committed provided they have enough evidence to hand such as a person admitting they broke the law.
Making drivers safer... the current driver training and driving test is pathetic!
Consider this if you will, @ 30MPH what is the velocity in feet per second? In the case of a person stepping out in front of you, you haven't got time to Google the answer = 44 feet per second. So in the time it takes to say "44" @ 30MPH you'll travel the length of a articulated lorry! Hopefully the honest people reading this will say to themselves 'WOW that far in one second, I hadn't realised' that's just one example of how little we comprehend when taking charge of a motor vehicle.
Most RTI's occur within just a few miles of home, and so complacency is a major factor in traffic accidents, that and the fact that most of us are too lazy to walk to the shop to get a pint of milk!
Imposing fines doesn't not educate or make people safer better drivers. |

It would be nice as I am fed up stopping at red lights only to have cyclists sail past wait at the island in the middle of the lights then carry on 
On the other hand the silly cow texting on her phone with one hand and eating an ice cream with the other and steering with her knee needs more than an on the spot fine  |

What gets my back up is when the kerb rats hide round a corner and try and catch you speeding just inside the markers. Last month they caught a whole lot of people nearby to me this way, and the place they got them was not an accident hot spot just a very good place to catch people just over the limit, easy money maker!
Its not even the police that catch you speeding these days its private companies that win a contract with the local police force - its a joke as its not about road safety any more its a business to make money and thats all
Don't get me wrong I'm not endorsing speeding at all just the fact it seems to be another way of taxing the motorist and its been proven that cameras don't stop speeding, the figures speak for themselves - google it |

You ought to watch a vid called its an illusion by John Harris ... Watch the full approx 55 mins. It saved me 9 points and huge fine. I wasn't guilty of the accusations by the obnoxious young king lick dick bobby and with the knowledge of the system it helped deter it from reaching the cps. |

Should have been an open and shut case. The other car drives straight out of a minor side road with poor viablity into a more major road without even slowing in front of three witnesses who gave statements at the scene.
Unfortunately I was preceding along the main road and left insufficient space to miss running into them. When I was eventually informed of the decision not to prosecute I was told that the witness statements had been lost. I still wonder if they might have been better stored if the other driver hadn't been and attractive young woman. |

Agree with this it is surely going to be based on the individual coppers opinion so cant see how it can be enforced equally and fairly across the country x |
