Hey guys and gals - I've noticed quite a lot of folk referring to "Moms" on the forums, something I always thought was more an American term rather than English....what do you call the woman who gave birth to you/bought you up....mine is Mam, or if I'm in a good mood, Wicked Witch of the West, or if she's in a bad mood, She Who Must Be Obeyed |

"Mum for sure, this is England! I hate Americanisms taking over our language!
Also call her mother and mummy (if I am taking the piss in a posh accent)"
I have been known to call her Mater in a mock posh accent |

"ive always called my mother by her first name, have done since i was a young child
Blimey, that'd be a quick route to a clout round the lughole for me.... "
My mother didnt bring me up tho, i was bough up by my Nan, so even tho she gave birth to me she wasnt really my mum if that makes sence and as such i never called her mum, i didnt call my Nan mum tho she was always Nan |

"So it is ok for people to use mam or mother or mum or mummy....but god forbid someone has the nerve to use mom....seriously are there not more important things to bitch about?"
Take a chill pill.....just a question...you didn't have to contribute |

"Last time I looked was an open forum...and as someone who is a mom I think I am allowed to have my say too..just questioned why it is so wrong when every other term is acceptable"
All you had to say was "I'm a mom" ....no-one's having a go, and I certainly didn't say any term was wrong......pity some folk can't lighten up |

"I call mine "mum", my kids refer to me as that (amongst a few other friendly but wholly inappropriate terms) and personally, I am not so keen on "mom"....
Always call her mother"
where I come from it sounds a wee bit too formal...so we tend to stick to "mum" |

"my mother was always called mum everyone look after yours there along time gone " Such a good point and I agree with you and its why I take my role as a mum and as a daughter equally seriously. |
