I actually though the disease had been eradicated. After a little bit of research after reading the OP it seems not. Quite scary when you consider it killed 25 million people in less that two years in the 14th century. Luckily we have antibiotics. Let's hope the virus does not mutate and become immune!!! |

Apparently there are 10 to 20 cases a year in the US and between 1000 and 2000 cases a year worldwide.
Since bubonic plague can normally be treated successfully with antibiotics before this cases their were only 4 recorded fatalities recorded in the US since the mid 30's. |
