We lost our brand new puppy yest...

Dublin

We only got him on Saturday. We were beyond excited to get him, i was counting down the sleeps on our status sure!

He started to suffer seizures at midday yesterday. After 2 fits, I dashed to the vet with him. They took him in straightaway. He suffered cluster seizures which they could not get to stop. They tried for 2hrs. By that time, his brain was too damaged. MrD had to make the decision alone to allow them to put the poor pup to sleep.

He was only 9weeks old and we had him 5 days. We are beyond devestated. My 2 kids and MrD's 2 kids are so upset.

It is such a shit thing to happen. We have been through so much heartache in the past few years, we felt this was a huge positive thing and Freddie was. We brought him today to be cremated. So sad

"Where did you get the puppy from? "

From a breeder. He has been breeding boxers for 20yrs and has never had this happen before. He is obviously very upset too and worried about his reputation.

They think it was idiopathic epilepsy. Poor pooch. He was so adorable. My heart is breaking all over again.

My family got a rescue dog a few years ago, had her a couple of weeks before we found out she had cancer and had to be PTS. As with my rescue baby, at least your pup had a happy few days with your family and got to experience that love and care x

Did the Vets give a reason for the seizures?

I have cared for a dog with Epilepsy, my old German Shepherd started having seizures, he was 9 though, caused by a brain tumour which we only discovered once he passed away.

We had his epilepsy under control for 3 years until it couldn't be controlled

They couldnt find anything in bus bloods. The only definitive way to know would have been to do an autopsy but we felt Freddie has been through enough.

Idiopathic epilepsy can occur in pure bred boxers, which what he was. It is very rare though.

Its heart breaking when you lose a dog, even worse when it was a puppy.

Do you think you will get another dog ?

Definetly. The breeder wants to give us another puppy from another of his other bitches litter later on in the year. We will see. I dont hold him responsible. Its just one of those things.

TBH this was the only gripe we had with the breeder. We wanted the pup to stay with the mum until 12 weeks but he was going on hols. We felt we got him too soon. Will insist on 12 wks the next time.

We feel your pain and suffered the same after a day when we brought a very young pup from a SPA rescue center here and he died from parvo.

So sorry for your loss.
