Is this going to be a thing of the past? I've been watching the way my son interacts with people etc and it's mainly on chat via video games or group what's app.

Made me think.. when I was younger we would have to perfect the art of going up to a lady and chat them up.. with varying degrees of success. And of course trying the odd cheesey line now and again.

But this art form will be lost on the younger generation.. what do you think?

Definitely. That's why when those would you like to go back to being 18 again questions come up, I'd love to, because I was terrible at chatting people up!

I'm fine once chatting but it's the initial breaking the ice thing I hated.

That doesn't exist anymore because people make that first connection digitally these days.

Dunno how old your kid is but what I see is that zoomers have an emotional openness that we wouldn't have imagined in our wildest dreams. As far as I'm concerned - good riddance to the ritualist chatups and all the BS that went with... not being allowed or able to say what we meant!

It's lost on most people now. Trying to get any type of conversation going on dating apps is like pulling teeth. I get that online is difficult sometimes but when you're the only one making any effort to ask questions or when all.yhey do is ask 5 questions in every message it's really hard to talk to people so I just give up.

I agree - from what I remember of the “old days” a chat up was mostly finding a line that the other person hadn’t heard but wasn’t so cringy that she threw up on you. After that it was being embarrassed and tongue tied.

Young ‘uns now seem to be a lot more open and honest, I hope they continue.

The dreaded single syllable reply, maybe with an emoji if they're feeling very talkative.
