Ok- I am going to go back to the gym. Please be kind!
My local isn’t opening yet but I need to do something about my mental health and my muffin top! So I am going to drive somewhere close where I know is open.
Girls can I ask what do you usually work out in? I keep seeing all these pics of women in tiny tops in the gym but I just can’t do that- my rolls would not give me much confidence...
But also a big T-shirt irritates me (I struggle enough with clothing due to me being on the autistic spectrum).
Do you prefer tight or loose? Clothing! Clothing!!!!
Men do you really notice women? Will I be able to sneak in and not be noticed?
Do you wear make up? I don’t wear it normally when I work out and dread to think I would need to when going to the gym.
Am I overthinking this?
I need some gentle encouragement here...

Sod everyone else, you need comfort.
I go for gym leggings and sleeveless tops with a very good sports bra.
Surprisingly Asda gym wear is excellent and value for money.
I stick with Shock Absorber bras. They are the only ones that I find comfortable and supportive. |

Thank you so much for your ‘supportive’ comments
You’re right! I just want comfort- but I dread the thought of looking like a sweaty mess (which I do when I work out).
It’s like I’m stuck. I need to try and kick start something- and hope a short membership may give me that freedom... try it out at least...
But then I’m terrified of what the media portray women look like in the gym! |

"Yoga pants, sleeveless top, good bra or sports bra, no make up and a good pair of trainers "
Really! I’d get away with no make up?
I don’t wear any 90% of my life - not even to work ...
Why am I over thinking this?

Gosh! I hope so.
I just want to blend in to background as much as possible.
Head down- work out and leave.

"No knickers under yoga pants.
No seriously
Your gym gear in your profile pics is great. Concentrate on decent foot wear, as that's the most important thing."
That was in my own garden... dressed for my husband to Perve....
The idea of others looking at me terrifies me.
And I don’t look like that at moment either!
Hence why I need urgent remedy!

What you're comfortable in. Everyone sweats at the gym. A glowing face is better than make up running down your face.
And... tbh... does it matter what everyone else thinks? Everyone is there to do some exercise! Just focus on what you're doing and sod everyone else! |

If you go to a gym that is fully inclusive, there won't be many super fit women in shorts and crop tops.
I will be going back to my gym soon. There's all sizes and ages and it's really friendly.
Everyone is there to exercise. Most women don't wear makeup.
Everyone looks like a sweaty mess if they're doing it properly...
If you are unsure, ask to have a look round first. |

I'm a bit of a chubster and wouldn't be seen dead in a little crop top! I wear high waist Nike sports leggings (I have long and cropped) plus a sports t-shirt that wicks sweat - not skin tight but a bit fitted. I have an Under Armour one and one from M&S's sports range. I tried Decathlon, but their XL women's t-shirt was so tiny, it would maybe have fitted a size 10?! My experience as a bigger woman plus a wheelchair user is that no-one else gives a crap and they just focus on their own work out. |

Try not to worry.
As a rule people go to exercise and don't take much notice of you, unless they want the equipment you are using.
I'm sure you will be fine x |

*virtual gentle nudge, and a sneaky bum pinch*
You'll be fine! Maybe have a little plan in your head what you'd like to do when you're there, then you have something to occupy you. Give yourself a minimum time you HAVE to stay for, even if it's 20 minutes. Then go from there |

Nobody ever looks at me at the gym, haha.
I love Asics tops. For some reason they are very flattering. Short sleeve, slightly loose. m
Under Armour shorts and leggings are great too.
No makeup, good trainers, hair up, red face.
I am there to work out, not to be seen/checked out, really... |

I dont train in commercial gyms, the gyms I train at are focused on strength sports, mostly powerlifting.
What is interesting in the mix of people, theres a lot of big guys training for strength and middle aged women trying to change their physique.
We have a very good female coach who attracts these ladies. At first they feel nervous about training in such a testosterone fuel environment, but unlike commercial gyms where most guys are there to look good and check out the girls, these guys are only interested in getting stronger.
It's also a very supportive environment, no one cares how much you can lift or what you look like but will respect anyone who puts in the work.
I'd definitely recommend hiring a powerlifting coach and finding a specialist gym.
Dont be fooled into thinking heavy weights will make you big and bulky, that's down to diet.
Calorie deficit and 3 to 4 times a week weight training will strip off the unwanted weight quick and tone you up to.

Yoga pants / gym leggings, a good sports bra (or2 if Zumba for example -the girls like to jiggle!), baggy sleeveless gym top. No make up -You're there for a reason.
Tend to find the ones wearing make up or posing get more people gawking at them (for the wrong reasons) than those that are just sweatily getting on with a workout |

Yet again, the women (and men) on this site have blown me away by your support and kindness!
Thank you for everyone’s gentle and compassionate comments.
Ok- I’m doing it! I’m off to join for a month and see how I do.
I will try to take everyone’s positive thoughts with me... which I am certain I will need to take me through the doors and walk towards that first machine...
Oh gosh!

I'm a dress size 16, sometimes 18. I wear the XL Nike leggings and L/XL Under Armour top. My M&S is dress sized so I got an 18 for less fitted. Very few wheelchair users are found in gyms (shame actually), but no-one has commented, pointed or even initiated much conversation. I have no idea if the huge PT guy I work with has anything to do with that, but I see women and men of all ages and sizes just getting on with their own thing.
Take the plunge! |

Have a serious mum tum after my four. I usually wear gym shark leggings high waisted one. kinda sucks things in (thank gods) i usually have a sports bra and i have a couple of under armour and gymshark sleeveless ones. I sweat like a pig doing weights, I stick on my headphones, work out, go home. I barely notice anyone else around me. and most others dont look around them either. there are people of all shapes and sizes in the gym. and tbh i think my OH has gotten more looks in the gym than i ever have lol |

I can assure you that others in the gym are focused on their own workout, not how you look.
My outfits tend to be Adidas fitted shorts or 3/4 length leggings (Asda do a great range) with a racer back top.
I tend to wear a cap to show others that I’m not interested in conversation and WiFi headphones.
Go for it OP, your work out garden pictures are super

We go to the gym for the same reason to improve ourselves.
Fellow gym goers wont judge.
Unless your a stick insect a pair of yoga pants and a t-shirt.
Nobody will notice.
Go and enjoy the gym. |

I wear leggings and sleeveless tops with a sports bra and no make-up. I don’t feel the need to look attractive for anyone in the gym but comfortable enough to work out.
T-shirts are so uncomfortable and I would feel like I’m looking for a hook-up if I work-out with just sports bra. That’s my personal thinking X |

The sexiest thing a girl can wear is confidence!
You go to the gym to work out, so wear something that allows you to do that- no other considerations are necessary! Girls that gym for fitness and wellbeing deserve respect- there's too much nonsense these days. The gym isn't for Instagram and posing, and that applies no matter what gender you are.

I'm like most ladies on here, I wear gym leggings and a sleeveless top that's not tight but not too baggy. I've been away from the gym for far too long (never really got back into it after an injury a few years ago), so when I'm ready I'm going to book some PT sessions - partly for the workout program, mainly for the kick up the arse I need, but also so I'm not walking into a new gym for the first time not knowing where anything is |

If I see someone work out properly, they have my respect and admiration regardless of what they look like or what they are wearing. If they fuck about on their phones, chat and hog the machines and take videos and selfies then, sorry, I'm gonna judge you for being a nob. |

Massively over thinking it. Wear what you are comfortable in and what will allow you to train safely.
I generally wear shorts or capri leggings (can't concentrate if my legs get hot ) and some form of t shirt or vest top and I'm 4 times your size! |

From my experience, most people are more concerned with what they look like themselves than what everyone else looks like, so you’re not alone in thinking like this but rest assured everyone else is too. Wear what is comfortable, work as hard as you’re body allows you too and do it for you. Your confidence will soon come back. Don’t worry about everyone else! |

Gym bunnies on instaglam are not helping normal people. They think that a face full of slap and false lashes are gonna drag other normal women into the gyms...the reverse will happen. they will be to self conscientious to enter. Hence this post.
It's a gym, not a bleeding cat walk. And that applies to some of the men too. Yes, I know that body builders are image obbessed.
Sweat is good B.O isn't. Smell nice, feel the burn, shower, then feel that glow! |
