Can someone please explain why when I just have the cute sexy photos on show I get far more messages, than I do when I have photos of me being tied up, engaged in group play, nipple clamps etc on show...

Because attractive generic pics are quicker to base a message on. Many guys will not want to have to think much to compose a message.
Commenting on bdsm, kink pics need more thought in terms of the tone of the message etc. which means more than a few seconds...nope on to the next...
