You see the caller id, some number you don't recognize. Maybe, you're in between jobs and waiting for a recruiter's call, or you have some other stuff going on that makes your heart jump a bit when you receive the call, hoping it's THE call...you answer, your heartbeat getting faster.
A voice on the other side of the line tells you:
"Hello, we are from company XYZ, have you heard of our new offer?"
So, from one to ten, how much do you people hate telemarketing? And why did you say ten? |

"I never answer my phone with unknown number or just a number. If it's that important they'll leave a message "
Good technique. But sometimes, you know, you have to answer. |

It's what answer machines and voicemail are for. But sometimes they can be fun to talk to - tell them you live in an 18 bedroom home and you're looking st having all the windows and doors replaced etc and wait for THEM to hang up and take you off their list.... I do have a heart though, they're just doing a job and trying to pay the bills..... |

"They would have got as far as “Hello, we are.....” with me before I ended the call. I have zero patience for it - highly irritating.
Aaaaand breathe..... "
Yes. Especially if you receive multiple calls in a single day. |

They are...and most of the times they also are underpaid and hating their job as well. |

I work for myself so get a lot of unknown or withheld numbers calling me, if it's an unsolicited sales call I switch into the full Scottish accent and play the 'I cannae understand ye' card. |

Being Italian with a heavy accent, I don't even need to switch Sometimes, it's a true battle between the caller and me, to see who has the most incomprehensible accent. |

Or ask them if they’d mind holding a minute. Play some music down the phone for 20 mins while you sit and have a brew. Then come back on the phone and apologise for their wait. |

I always wanted to do that to helplines. Just to let them know how it feels to be left on hold with shitty music for an eternity! |

My Dad did this to someone once (they were dicks and it was warranted..and he’s the least patient person ever). It did make me chuckle at the time. |

Sometimes, they truly deserve the treatment. |

"I don't answer calls from numbers I don't know unless it's really late in the night. I don't think I've ever had to deal with a spam phonecall. "
Good strategy. Unless you get a late call... |
