Morning all. I know this is a long shot but are there any fellow plane spotters on here. Don’t have any friends and was wondering if there is anyone on here into this. Ideally looking for Heathrow or surrounding London airports.

Totally get not most peoples thing but thought I would give it a try

It’s easy at Heathrow. I went and was like there’s one, there’s another one. Look there’s loads. Had a great time tbh.

Heathrow

I am an ex-spotter, now just a watcher.

I also live within 500 yards of 27R/09L at Heathrow!

I still go to the odd air show now and again. Cosford, RIAT, Blackpool being among them.

I may occasionally take a drive out to an airbase if there’s an unusually high amount of movements planned.

I’m definitely a fully fledged plane spotter and photographer. I spend many a day lurking around airports, especially Heathrow and my local of East Midlands. Would love to chat with anyone on here with an interest in aviation.

Staying overnight at Heathrow on April 3rd if you want to meet up.

North Norfolk

Used to be right in to it when I was younger, military only though. Had scanners, vice recorders etc. used to log everything too! I remember sitting up all hours with my HF rig and a piece of copper wire for an aerial. Amazing hearing flights from all around the world.

Also spent a bit of time at Heathrow doing some civvy spotting when down that way.

Is “Wiggy” still the affectionate term for plane spotters ?

There was a time you’d find me sat around the terminal at Hurn ( not the pretentious bournemouth international lol ) with my CAM in one hand and my bins in the other but that was a long time ago now

I was scared to realise I’ve been spotting for 35 years! Things have certainly changed in terms of technology… part of me misses the old days of turning up at an airport on spec, not knowing what you’d see.

Used to love exploring all the nooks and crannies at BOH…

Used to go to Manchester a lot as a kid, still like going now, either to the airport pub\ public viewing area depending on wind direction or on the south side.

I live close to East Midlands Airport and depending on the wind direction I just watch them from the living room. Quite enjoy seeing them as I used to be really into my planed.

Now if only I could do women spotting lol.

I’m at the opposite side for EMA - they turn onto approach right over my house

My old boss used to be able to identify an aircraft just by the sound of its engines as it flew over without looking at it! We used to have team Friday lunchtime drinks under the flight path at Heathrow. Always spot on!
