You're doing well...2 or 3 a day is barely any, no it's not as good as none, but coming from a former 30-40 a day man I know how tough it is.
Could always try switching to vaping to get over that final hurdle - worked for me, went from ciggies to vape overnight and can honestly say I haven't missed them in the slightest |

Yeah good luck, it’s not easy at all.
I have given up and started again 3 times now over the years and started smoking again through lockdown, best bet is to get rid altogether though.
Been back off them for a couple of weeks again but it’s a nightmare habit.

Might not be helpful and sound harsh...
But I used to smoke, a friend of mine who (used to do 40 a day) quit told me that nicotine is only in your system for a couple of days so technically after about three days you're not "physically addicted" and who can't go three days?
He then said "after that it's all in your head" and said that he'd just asked himself "what sort of a pathetical weak minded person didn't have enough mental willpower to not have another cigarette knowing they aren't physically addicted". Knowing the health costs and impact it will have on friends and family. He made me feel really pathetic.
I stopped then and there too... Honestly, found it really easy and had previously struggled.
I think any vaping/ nicotine is like a fad diet... just a ploy by the companies to keep up in the cycle. And I also don't think telling yourself it's hard helps.
Going from 1/ 2 you're practically there... already.

Good job.
One thing I learned when trying to kick a habit (caffeine, which it easier but similar), was that I needed to change how I spoke and thought about quiting.
I too was using phrases like "I'm quitting" and "hoping to stop".
These phrases gave me an escape clause and if I didn't fully quit, I could just shift the goals further because they were not definite. I found I just couldn't quit.
By changing to more definite, positive wording like "I will stop by...", I reinforced that I will stop in my own head and made it so I have no easy excuse if I fail.
I actually went the whole hog, and just started saying "I don't drink caffeine". I'd say it to myself every morning and everytime I craved it.
I haven't gone back to it since (despite the week of pounding headaches)
(I believe this is referred to as NLP btw)

Oh, the other thing is habbits are hard to break, but easier to replace.
So when you want a cigarette, do something else instead. If that something is good for you then even better!
So try getting up and eating some fruit, or drinking a glass of water instead. Let that become your new habbit. |

that's pretty good going but why Christmas, why not tomorrow?
All the time you're having one, two, three a day you're still a smoker.
We went cold turkey over 30 years ago, still get the odd craving and I still dream I'm smoking sometimes |
