Let's talk beauty. Who's been to the hairdresser? Makeup discoveries? Skin issues? Troubleshooting?

I've got hormonal breakouts. Shit happens. Not been to the hairdresser, going to see when my hair starts to piss me off.

Discovered a lipstick brand called Queendom, very feminist marketing. Their formula is really nice!

I went to the hairdressers last weekend for the first time in 4 months. And strangely I now think it looked better before! Disappointing...

Oh no!

I read an article about a month ago suggesting that they're going to try to encourage the bob back because it's more hygienic at the moment than a blow dry.

I saw that too, which made no sense to me at all. You'd think hair would act as a barrier. Then found out the advise was from hairdressers, can't help but think they benefit from bobs that require more hairdresser visits

Interesting... I can see why.

I just feel very blonde all of a sudden, whereas the “blended root” look was probably more natural. I’m not sure my hairdresser would be impressed if I went back and asked her to reinstate my Covid hair, though

Not been to the hairdressers yet, I'm so excited to see how long it is. Biotin tablets, no heat products and lots of hair masques have really helped it grow and get so healthy.

I thought I'd try the Dove Visible Gradual Self Tan in Dark and it left me looking orange and streaky so I might try something for lighter skin tones.

I’d like to have eyelash tints, but at a salon not at home myself! I may give this a go when beauty salons are open again

My teen daughter used that St Moritz tan, she went for the darkest shade (she has my skin tone!) She woke up orange and patchy, bless her, it wasn’t a great look. I may try the lighter one myself ...

I'd heard that hair was a fomite?

But the argument was that blow outs spread germs. I can see it. Analogy with hand dryers?

I'm wavering on growing out versus pixie/ get rid

Hairdressers next week, always feel better when it is done. She is definitely worth the trip to Leeds.

Skin mostly OK apart from hands weeping and cracked. Have my cream from the doctor and my gloves to sleep in but weeks on and still flaring up.

I am trying a new eyeliner I have been using urban decay for years and love it but always good to see what else is out there. Got the bare minerals liner and pleasantly surprised.

Haven't been to the hairdresser yet - will be going in about 10 days.

Haven't had my hair this long for about 30 years and it's really starting to annoy me.

I'd forgotten how hair with a wave in it is fairly uncontrollable and wild and how much of it I've got.

My hairdresser has decided to retire due to her bad health so I'm on the hunt for a new one. It's not easy! My hair has got pretty long and is in need of a cut, although I'm not bad at doing the fringe.

I've ordered some of The Ordinary products which I'm very excited about. The eye cream, a moisturiser and a serum for my daughter. That's because of one of your threads OP and the amazing re_iews those products have. So....Thanks

What kind of hair masques do you use Meli? Do you have to wash it after?

Lockdown has enabled me to not wash my hair quite as often which I think has helped it a bit.

Haven't been to hairdressers for about 2 years now, but I like my hair long.

I did get a bit of a shock in TK Maxx yesterday when I noticed a microneedles pinwheel being sold as a beauty product. Apparently, it is good for so many things, like reducing wrinkles and stretch marks, reducing cellulitis etc. I guess I need to get my partner to use the pinwheel on my butt and thighs more .

I discovered sites with recommendations, it'll depend on your hair. No shampoo, though. (I'm using up my non CG stuff at the moment) "Loved by Curls" and "Curly Girl Approved" have some products, and many of them are own brand.

I'll need to get my hair layered or it'll be a godawful mess. I will at some stage.

I've read stuff on risks of microneedling. I'm wary.

It's so not curly girl friendly, so I'll not be repurchasing, but for hair growth and feeling healthy/ minimal split ends... The Loreal Dream Lengths stuff is great. I love the smell and how nice my hair feels using the treatments.

I don't use heat treatment with it though, at all, because I'm working on getting into curly girl after I'm through these products.

But maybe worth it for those trying to grow hair out without working on curly hair.

I recently bought pomade for the first time(used to use powder or pencil). I have ABH in shade Ebony and I love it. It's not exactly smudge proof so I need to be careful not to accidentally rub my brows, but it's really easy to work with and make precise lines

I find it long lasting and appreciate the range of colours. Given my fairly light skin and pale eyes, black is often quite harsh on me so I'll reach for a lighter brown, aubergine, or navy. Or other colours for more decorative purposes (their gold is less of a solid line but is quite pretty as a minimal lower lash accent, for example)

I also have pale skin, but because I have black hair I tend to wear black eyeliner most of the time. I have some glittery ones from Poundland which I surprisingly like too. And if I feel like experimenting with colours I use Jeffree Star velour liquid lipsticks, it's just a pain to remove them without making my eyes really sensitive.

I got a recommendation for The Body Shop camomile cleansing balm. Apparently it's really good for removing eye make-up, I will be trying it first time tonight.

I get that. Your skin is paler than mine. I just find it too much for me most of the time. To each their own!

I use the Superdrug dual phase oil cleanser as my makeup remover/ first step in a double cleanse. I don't put lip stuff on my eyes, but I find gently holding it over the eye for awhile disintegrates the makeup. It leaves a film, but it's dirt cheap and as I say I always double cleanse

Sometimes on Reddit you can get people to swatch what they've got so you can compare. I think that might be the future in the short term

The one upside was I had a makeover end of last year and the make artist said I had great skin and then went onto ask me what my regime was...

La la land

"Has anyone dyed their own eyelashes? Saw a kit on a TV program, but wasn't sure it was a good idea

I dye my own and also do my own eyelash extensions xx

Which kit do you use? And is it easy to do even if you're as blind as a bat without your glasses?

Can I PM you some links? X

Links might get you message bans, be careful"

Thanks swing

I’m booking in to get my haircut in a few weeks once it’s less manic out there! Split ends and mega untidy, plus my sweeping fringe is just gone haha

"I find it long lasting and appreciate the range of colours.

Apparently it's really good for removing eye make-up, I will be trying it first time tonight."

Oh that cleansing balm is gorgeous! It's so gentle too so hopefully it will remove the eye makeup without irritating your eyes.

I cant wait to go to the hairdressers- I'm really excited about it

My hair is just stupid looking now.

I did an awful box dye job on it which was supposed to be a tinge of red - but all it did was dye the grey bits pink and dye the dry ends a bizzare purple colour

Just awful!

"I'm going to try the curly girl method as I have a feeling it will bring out the waves in my hair. Any recommendations for affordable shampoo and conditioners that work with this method? Thank you!

I discovered sites with recommendations, it'll depend on your hair. No shampoo, though. (I'm using up my non CG stuff at the moment) "Loved by Curls" and "Curly Girl Approved" have some products, and many of them are own brand."

Thanks lovely! I'll look into it more once the little one is in bed. I didn't even know no shampoo was allowed.

I'm currently sporting what can only be described as a thick aubur/chestnut brown (natural hair colour) mane!! It's thick curly Celtic hair haha! I can't wait to have it thinned out!! It's shoulder length at the moment, the longest it has been in years

Skin care, I keep simple, I have quite sensitive skin, so the only thing I use to wash with is imperial leather soap (the original) my skin is soft, and blemish free.

I am however on the hunt for a decent nail polish brand that doesn't chip after day one of use!!

I like the OPI polishes I've got, for sure. Haven't done my nails in an age.

Anyone seen the Robert Welsh re_iew on Sleek? I've got that loose pigment he uses and it is indeed the bomb.

"Hairdressers next week, always feel better when it is done.

I like the... I forget if it's Rimmel or Revlon vinyl ones.

Marc Jacobs are supposed to be really good if you run to it. Fenty very hit and miss. (What I know about eyeliners of late lol)

I like either KVD Tattoo liner or Eyeko liners and mascaras are great too. "

Oh I have the KVD one I tend to save that for special occasions which there isn't many at the moment

Will look at Eyeko

I rarely reach for liquid eyeliner, but the one I have is Nyx. I quite like it, to the extent I like liquid eyeliner.
