"Finding the old big pennies all over the house.
Actually how about spending half pennies.
I remember being able to buy sweets for half a penny each "
Mojo's were four for a half penny when I was at school |

When self service petrol stations didn't exist and the "attendant" filled your tank (one for the ladies), wiped your chrome and windscreen down and gave you directions.
When water came out of a tap and bottled water was a dream
When olive oil was some strange foreign stuff and we will stick to mazola thanks very much
When Guinness was good for you and a Mars bar helped you work rest and play |

School fetes... Now I may have dreamed this... But does anyone else remember...
1) the crockery shy... Where men (presumably because women either weren't permitted to or were busy at the tea stand) through wooden balls at China plates and cups with the sole purpose of smashing them... I'm not sure if you won anything...
2) the smash the piano.. Where again... Men.. Grrrrr... Would take a sledge hammer to a piano...
Oh and school dinners... Chocolate concrete and yellow peril..
Oh and gathering around the black and white TV in the school hall to watch the moon landings... |

Telly's that you changed channel by turning a dial to tune them
Internal TV aerials that you had to position just right (usually in the most awkward place/position possible!!) to get any kind of a picture
"Catch up TV" consisted of waiting months or even years for a programme to be repeated |

"Waking up during the winter to find the cream in the milk frozen and expanded to push the foil top off the bottle."
Or going to collect the milk from the doorstep to discover birds had pecked the foil in - which gave rise to plastic tops you left out for the milkman to put over the bottle to protect it |

I’m dreading ever clearing my mam’s loft, full of my childhood and she brings all sorts down occasionally. What’s odd is she had moved 4 times since I left home and still has it all. Her last visit here she delivered four boxes of books from my childhood, including annuals from 1975 |

I was up in my parent’s loft yesterday looking for my old degree certificate for an application. Faded photo of me where they are mostly just red now from the days where 36 photos was your lot so each one had to count. Baby clothes my mother had hidden away so she could keep safe for herself and their records and player from the days in which scratch and hiss was the sounds of the charts |

It’s great to explore and brings back so many memories, I dread to think what else is up there... it runs the length of her bungalow and it’s full to the rafters |

"Chinese burns or slapsies
Pinch and a punch for the first day of the month
Raps - hitting each other’s knuckles with a full pack of cards which gets spread short edge to create a rasping edge "
Not just the rasping sound, but bloodied knuckles! Used to really hurt!!
Haven’t followed the first two threads, but playing elastic?
And mint custard at school...what WAS that?! |

It did hurt indeed but we still did it
Now there’s a blast elastic both jumping and on fingers, can’t remember what the game was called but a move on the fingers was cats cradle
Never had mint custard, my school’s favourite was pink custard |

No mobile phones, so 3 rings home to say you had arrived safely at mates.
