I've got them

Stupid feet that hurt after lengths of time standing or walking etc ..

I went on an epic walk today and I'm now crippled.

Does anyone else suffer with it and what do you do to help with exercise etc?

You need footwear with raised arches, or whatever technical term they use.

Yes, I've started using barefoot Shoes in an effort to retrain myself to use the ball of my feet while walking rather than the heel. I'm not sure how well I'm doing but the shoes seem to be causing me less pain.

Have you tried FitFlops? I used to suffer with plantar fasciitis which was so painful and these really helped x

Yes I have - occasional plantar facscitis is unfortunate side effect of my flat feet and wearing the wrong shoes

Fit flops are great as a summer shoe but not for walking - insoles don't help either.

They used to do boots and trainers as well quite pricey but well worth it, I spent all winter in Uggs about 8/9 years ago and because they’re so flat that’s what caused the PF , bloody painful so you have my sympathy

This xxx

I recommend an orthotic 75 percent of the time and arch strength exercises

Also to help avoid pf avoid walking bare foot on hard hard cold floors especially first thing in morning

But genuinely for most people who want to walk or run distance the sports orthotic is a good solution

I have some custom made orthotics- they are pretty uncomfortable.

But I guess they take some getting used to - I wear Asics trainers most of the time which are 'supportive ' but it's getting worse as I get older and fatter

I'm enjoying exercise at the moment as I have a lot of free time - so I'm going to stick to cycling and start swimming as soon as the pools open x

I use scholl sports orthotics

I dont find them too aggressive enough support to prevent the plantar fascia from over stretching

Also towel scrunches to strengthen the arch support muscles

Manchester (she/her)

I try to make myself walk on the outside of my foot. It helps with the flat feet and some of the plantar fascitis

Try getting referred to your local podiatrist.

I suffered for years with pain & the added joy of plantar fasciitis. My feet are so flat, they suction to shiny floors when I walk over them!!

Following a referral, The NHS should make you some orthotics..specially shaped insoles for your shoes, to give you a false arch. They're best worn in something like a trainer, so not great if you live in 6 inch heels though. In some areas, you can self refer but check with your local gp.

Once you have some, you can get a new set every year or two & they really do make a difference.
