Best pub in the world. (best you have visited)
Jump to: Newest in thread
For me, the greatest pub I have ever been to on my worldly travels has to be The Oliver St John Gogarty in temple bar in Dublin, Ireland. Fantastic atmosphere, with live music, excellent food, superb pint and very polite staff. I visited last year whilst in Dublin to see RUSH at the O2 arena. Brilliant place! |

"There's over 300 pubs in York. I'll let you know when I've visited all of them.
Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem in Nottingham is a good one."

'Hill Top Inn' Used to be a fave place for a 'team-fuckabout' on the bikes. Such a great place with a brilliant mix of bikers, potholers, punks an' dropouts lol!
They had a huge camping area outside, did brilliant breakfasts, ahd live music most weekends.
Spent my most memorable New Years there getting pissed, off me tits and moshing to an Oompah-Rave band!
It was freezing outside, 3 foot of snow, slept in the van with duvets and body heat, had to piss in a pint-pot cos it was just tooooo cold to leave the van.
aaah memories |

20 years ago i would have agreed with you, it has improved somewhat these days.
Stout was a traditional London drink, now associated with Ireland in most peoples minds.Guinness is with out a doubt the best Stout there is |

I think a good pub has a lot to do with who you are with / what mood you are in / whether it has good memories or bad / the time you go / how often you go etc etc
For example, the pub mentioned in the OP
Based on my initial visit, I would concur wholeheartedly, but been back a few times since and not enjoyed it anywhere near as much and sadly now just view it as a tourist money drain, a commercial machine.
Any pub can be good with the right mix of friends and beer and laughs. |

The best pubs I have visited are all sadly second hand furniture shops, MacDonalds or Mosques now.
O to be able to walk into a pub that isnt decorated exactly the same as every other pub in the chain, stinking of garlic, staff walking around pretending to be Irish, Mexican or Australian, kids running around sky TV on a 60 inch blurred screen showing a Spanish league match...
To be able to ask for a light and bitter without some humourless geek type behind the bar saying...'whats that?..we only do lager or shots'..I only want a pint, not a long glass of luminescent piss.

I agree, the pub is as good as the people you are with
There are many great pubs in Dublin, or Publin as some call it. I'm not particularly fond of any place in Temple Bar as described by the OP, as it's a touristy place. But with the right crowd it can be good craic! |
