Was that at GP or FPC? Mine was due in April/May but the nurse said not to worry as they've always been OK... Wondering when I should try and have it done - need my IUD replacing as well... ![](/icons/s/surprised.gif) |

My daughter (who is 32) has just had a colposcopy. I had one at 38. Both for pre cancerous cell removal and both with a punch biopsy too. I would also urge all women to go too xxxx |

My last smear was awful! I had a trainee nurse in as well, so they opened the spectrum too far so she was able to see what they should be looking at.
I've also had to have a colposcopy as had abnormal cells found, was just monitored every 6 months and thankful back to down to annual, but the female doctor at the hospital was my worst experience, I swear I picked up an infection, as I had painful cramps for weeks/months after that I had to go on post operation anti-biotics! |

Oh gosh I'm sorry to hear that! You've been through the mill you poor thing. I work in gynae and unfortunately all these type of things come with a risk of infection. Vaginas are a bit like mouths in that they naturally have a fair amount of bacteria but it often doesn't cause issues. Sorry to hear you were one of the unlucky few and I hope everything is fine for you now . |

I've had cervical cancer having a smear test is nothing compared to have treatment for cancer.
Keep up to date ladies if you have not had a test due to covid now is the time to badger your doctors to get one done! |

I'm back to normal now, I think I was monitored for about 4 years, 1 would come back normal but then the next one wasn't, I'm just glad I am back down to annual testing.
I think I must be nearly due for another one shortly, so will be awaiting my letter soon in the next week or so, so will wait and see.
But I will say, I didn't like those anti-biotics lol as you definitely can't drink on them so a fair warning to those others it might happen to ![](/icons/s/razz.gif) |

Had everything whipped out last year. I had no cervix left due to CIN3. I’m very pro-smear as my 1st saved my life when I was 19. As Buxom Red said above a smear is better than the treatment xxx |

Yes I'm fine now, had it twice.
I've been clear now for five years.
Very little cervix left to do a smear on but still go for mine.

"Christ!
What did they use, sandpaper?
The word 'smear' sort of implies a gentle wipe with something."
It normally is but at the same time it is not the most comfortable either, then you have some inexperience to factor in or the not so inexperienced and tend to it like a tread mill!
It's usually not the smear itself, it's the way it has been taken!
But I still advocate all women to keep themselves up to date |

It's kind of like a bottle brush thing they use to get some cells. It's not hugely invasive or anything but any amount of messing with your cervix can trigger cramps. Too deep penetration gives me cramps. Lucky me. |

Oh lovely, hope you feel better.
Mine is due, will be ringing Monday.
I had CIN 3 cells removed a couple of years ago, so don't take chances now
So if any of you ladies are putting it off, please don't. I did and I was very lucky....Thank goodness for a persistent Dr who insisted....
Just do it ![](/icons/s/2/heart.gif) |

My only issue has been zealous speculum use. Those metal fuckers hurt. Although poking around in the cervix is super weird. Stuff shouldn't be there ![](/icons/s/2/vom.gif) |
