A cuddle isn't on the cards at the moment and the other top suggestion isn't going to cut it either!
What helps when you can't sleep? I really struggle with insomnia at the minute and I'm lucky if bedtime is before 4 if not 5am.
I realise the irony of asking while using a screen as lack of screentime is meant to help. But even if I switch it now I can guarantee I'll just be lying in the dark for hours. Working night shifts sometimes doesn't help either but since lockdown sleep just doesn't seem to exist.
Rambling post! Any advice? |

Being able to sleep anywhere is my super power. But maybe get that calm app, there's some nice soothing pieces of music to fall asleep too.
Best thing is just to try and relax, try not to think I'm trying to sleep or I cant sleep, just lie back, close your eyes, focus on your breathing.

Watch Countdown, holy god that’s a boring program, that will send you to sleep, alternatively use exercise, go for a run something high intensity, you’ll be wrecked afterward and fall into a deep sleep |

Last night the rain hitting the wheely bin in the entry sounded like clapping. I had never been clapped to sleep before until last night and it wasn't too bad ![](/icons/s/biggrin.gif) |

I try to name characters alphabetically from a favourite book or film, usually works or some mindfulness! Good luck and take care! Xxx |

When my husband softly tickles my back and arms, soft slow strokes up & down. Its usually leads to sex, I fall asleep after a hard fucking as well, so it's a win win situation ![](/icons/s/mrgreen.gif) |

I use the method of imagining your way along a journey that you know really well. It has to be a long enough route that it takes some time but you also know it well enough that you hardly need to think about it, just flow along it in your head....
...I find it usually works and I nod off well before the end ![](/icons/thumb_up.png) |

That's a technique I teach to pregnant women to do when they are in labour ![](/icons/thumb_up.png) |

Screen time late at night is dreadful for sleep!
Your brain is geared to switching off for rest as night falls, if you use your social media or pc late at night or in bed you are just exacerbating your sleep problem.
Try less screen time late at night. I don’t sleep well anyway and I listen to a radio programme on iPlayer - I’m usually asleep before it ends. |

Have a pre bedtime bath or shower using products containing ylang ylang, it has calming/relaxing properties similar to lavender but smells loads better (in my opinion anyway). Also a pillow or room must with ylang ylang helps, as does having the window open a crack so there's a bit of fresh air flow and don't have the bedroom too hot, we have a fan in the summer which helps no end and the noise is really quite soothing.
Hope some of this helps cos lack of sleep is just awful. Sending you a big virtual cuddle OP. X |

Hoping I won't need it for that reason anytime soon ![](/icons/s/biggrin.gif) |

There's an app called noisli that lets you program sounds to fall asleep to - rain, wind, thunder etc. That really helps when I'm having some insomnia.
I also like to make lists in my head - silly things like favour ice cream flavours, hottest men/women on TV etc. That distraction helps my brain switch off and fall asleep usually too |
