I just made a chocolate cake with 50 cals per slice.
I was so excited.
I am so disappointed.
Someone please make it okay for me to eat real cake and not mess up my weight loss |

Everything in moderation . Have the real cake but you'll have to lose the calories elsewhere in the day. You'll probably go hungry but if it's worth it for you then do it. Personally I fibd it easier to deal with hunger earlier in the day so I'd have very low calorie breakfast and lunch to allow for the cake and fill up on veg and protein at dinner. |

Removing ingredients lowers Kcal but destroys taste. Use better grade choccy in cakes (aldi do a good range 60% and up) and use proper butter BUT THEN portion control. Get your fix, know you've had it and retrain to recognise it.
Alternatively use Cacao powder to dust the lo-cal choc cake. Cacao hasnt been treated so less bitter than cocoa. Slightly different taste but all choccy. |

This
What we found is that once you start counting calories you quickly learn to choose stuff that's filling for its calories otherwise you're permanently hungry (well, I always am anyway - the only solution is to run shit loads and then I can stop being hungry)
It is also scary how many calories there are in things, we used to enjoy a mug of hot sweet milk before bed to see found it took 200+calories off our allowance
On the plus side, walking is easy and burns virtually the same number of calories as running for a given distance, it just takes longer. |

If you want cake, then have cake but only buy a slice rather than a whole cake to avoid temptation. Food is not ‘naughty’. Food is pure pleasure and can be even better than sex....but. Many of us need help with our portion sizes... cue the empty Pringles tube.... |

I can deal with hunger okay, I fast every other day and on my eating days I only eat lunch and dinner. I do have the occasional cheat day but today was not one of those and I just wanted a guilt free treat tbh I made it more for the low carb/sugar aspect than the low cal but never mind, I had a Halo Top ice cream bar instead and that was actually pretty yummy |

I know.. I hate labelling food as "bad" and I do have the occasional treat but I have been making so much progress lately (23lbs down) and I really didn't want to mess it up for a slice of cake |

Would you say the same about crack cocaine
Sadly we know the op is having a dilemma about weight caused health issues
Seriously and actually I'm more serious that will be accepted
For the OP it could ironically be less harmful to smoke a crack pipe each morning and not eat cake than the other way round
Oh and that's accepting crack can be harmful

Cake isn't crack though is it
And as a fat bird myself I know how it feels to crave high calorie foods and how having low fat foods does not ease that craving.
It's not as simple as eat a slice of banana bread when you crave chocolate cake.
It's something that slim people will never understand. |

The halo icecreams are great! Also mini twister ice lollies are only 45 calories. I save my treats for when I'm really craving something sweet. Sometimes a glass of fruit juice hits the spot though. |

Crave
Sounds like crack
What rubbish are you writing about larger or slimmer people
We all enjoy cake and chocolate
I am absolutely addicted
To my mind it's a drug
I can indeed crave it
More than any drug I've ever experienced

Hint
The craving is vastly stronger than crack |

Trust me
Use over ripe banana and enjoy
Else you WILL join the yo yo
Extreme deprivation followed by extreme depression followed by an extreme fix which will self perpetuate
The cycle is well studied
You need to be careful with carbs and must NOT eradicate them unless you absolutely are exceptionally strong willed
A sweet banana is so much better than any suga fix
Dont try to be pure unless you know (not think) know you can be permanently strict

Yep. As of my most recent blood test (last week) my blood glucose has gone way down and I am now right on the border between pre diabetic and type 2, whereas before I was full blown type 2. I've done this by avoiding sugar and carbs with a cheat day every couple of weeks. My doctor is very happy and is confident that if I keep it up I will be able to fully reverse it and become non diabetic
Unfortunately today is not one of my cheat days ergo trying to make a low carb cake.
Also the bypass is over a year away as I need to complete a specialist programme first but if I carry on losing weight I will opt not to have it done. |

Next week I will be making the journey back to Weightwatchers, 12 weeks of making and eating cake have seen me balloon to over 18 stone.
12 years ago I did WW and lost 60lbs in 27 weeks, don't think I can near to that now but 25 - 30lbs would be a big help. |

Nobody is saying eat a whole cake and eat it everyday .
You even say yourself that complete deprivation is likely to lead to a binge. If she really, really wants cake, have a sensible amount, get it out of your system and then carry on the diet. Just trying to ignore all cravings for nice foods most often just leads to caving in all together. You don't have to give up cake completely to be slim. |

I can deal with hunger okay, I fast every other day and on my eating days I only eat lunch and dinner. I am really liking Halo Top! Their peanut butter swirl bars are absolutely heavenly; today I tried the vanilla crunch bars and they are pretty good too. I've found the trick is to let them sit out for a few minutes before eating and that way they melt a bit and go super creamy the mini twisters are great but halo top is high protein so a lot more satisfying for me.
I do like a nice fruit juice but they are usually very high sugar and even a little bit makes me lightheaded (due to the diabetes that SensualTouch so kindly brought up). |

Its incongruous
Someone seems cranky... Cake?
I find that comment rude and a personal attack
I care greatly for the wellbeing of the OP
I know a number of recovering alcoholics
Its darn inconsiderate to offer them alcohol
Now swap the above scenario with the OP to
She is trying not to drink alcohol
The replying has been
Aw go on
Go on
Have a gin
Mmmm lovely wine
Go on have a vodka a
Go on go on
She need support
Not a cake love in
It's a lovely drug
It's not kind to rub it in her face after she has done so well to improve her diabetes
Why oh why would anyone taunt a diabetic with sugar ???
No I'm not grumpy I'm compassionate xxx "
But... Why do you think that just because people on here are telling me it's okay that I'm just going to go and wolf down a whole cake? I've never said that was my intention so I'm pretty confused. I was just lamenting the fact that my diet version of a cake turned out badly and I wish I could have real cake. I didn't at any point say I was actually going to eat the real cake? Also do I really need anybody's permission to eat real cake, apart from my own? |

"Everything in moderation .
I can deal with hunger okay, I fast every other day and on my eating days I only eat lunch and dinner. I do have the occasional cheat day but today was not one of those and I just wanted a guilt free treat tbh I made it more for the low carb/sugar aspect than the low cal but never mind, I had a Halo Top ice cream bar instead and that was actually pretty yummy
The halo icecreams are great! Also mini twister ice lollies are only 45 calories. I save my treats for when I'm really craving something sweet. Sometimes a glass of fruit juice hits the spot though.
I had the peanut butter ones when I did low carb. Kind of helps I love peanut butter!
That’s fair. I'm glad you've found something that works for you.
Ahh that's fair. It will hit you all at once in a drink so makes sense. Probably best to stick to the slower digesting things when having a treat then. |

"Can I advise you all to please eat cake and stay away from crack.
Definitely noted
The takeaway from this thread
Crack = always bad
Cake = good but maybe kind of bad but don't eat the whole cake unless you wanna eat the whole cake then do so. "
But crack is better than cake so have crack if you want to avoid type 2 diabetes like poor old me because being a crack addict is better than being fat (and if you're a crack addict you'll probably be slim too so bonus) |

There's a reason cyclists do club runs on a Sunday. twenty miles to the garden centres, cake and coffee and somewhere safe-ish to park the bikes. Then it's the same distance back.
Cycle/coffee and cake/cycle, it's a winning combination.
Especialy if you have a GPS/Garmin/fitbit and end up in calorie deficit and can prove it on screen. |

That sounds lush. I used to cycle most days when I was a kid but unfortunately I had an accident and was in a cast/crutches for 6 weeks. Every time I've tried to get back on a bike since then I just keel right over. I might be the only person in the world that's forgotten how to ride a bike! |

"Next week I will be making the journey back to Weightwatchers, 12 weeks of making and eating cake have seen me balloon to over 18 stone.
12 years ago I did WW and lost 60lbs in 27 weeks, don't think I can near to that now but 25 - 30lbs would be a big help."
Good luck!! |

I lost five stone a few years ago and honestly, denying myself of treats was the such a bad idea.
If you want a slice of cake, have ONE slice of cake and enjoy it. One slice of cake will not mess up your weight loss as long as it's a treat.
And although this cake wasn't a success, keep trying out low calorie recipes because maybe you'll discover one you really enjoy. |

Thank you lovely, although I ate a massive salad for my dinner followed by an entire punnet of blueberries so I don't think I actually have any more room for cake! And well done on losing 5 stone, that's amazing!! You look fantastic |

"Better to have one slice of delicious full fat cake than two slices of horrible diet cake. "
Hmm see most people would think that way but I would actually rather have more of something that tastes less good lol. I'm all about quantity over quality having said that though, this cake was truly inedible! |

"I just made a chocolate cake with 50 cals per slice.
I was so excited.
I am so disappointed.
Someone please make it okay for me to eat real cake and not mess up my weight loss "
Hey hun, if I'm craving cake these are my go to, they're only 152 cals each, individually wrapped so the rest of the pack lasts ages. They genuinely satisfy the cake NEED especially if you eat it as little bites slowly and for similar cals to a large banana!
Keep going! xx
