There is a place near me where you can get buried in a willow casket in the middle of woodland |

I honestly couldn't give a stuff what happens at my funeral as they're only for those left alive to say goodbye anyway. When I die this body becomes nothing more than an empty carcass as what makes me the person I am evaporates into the Ether the instant I expire - my kith and kin can do what they want with it. |

I always wanted the same after seeing it in the old Kirk Douglas film.
A few weeks ago someone in Cornwall who wanted the same had built a 4 foot remote control model of a long ship, he had his ashes on board and the family set the boat alight as they pushed it out to sea. |

was at one yesterday of a close friend and it was a humanitarian service.
was lovely, they chose poems/songs instead of bible readings/hymns.
the lady from the humanitarian society was great. |

Me and my hubby wont be having a church service, just going to be taken to be cremated.
We are both atheists and we dont believe in traditional funerals and also think they are a waste of money too. |

My dad had a humanist service held at the crematorium. He always said he was a member of 'the church of wheelbarrow' (only went when he was pushed )so a religious service wouldn't have been appropriate.
The humanist service was lovely. The woman conducting it came to my mum's house a few days before and asked about my dad, any anecdotes that summed him up as a person and music that we'd like on the day.
The grandchildren wrote little poems about their grandad and my sister read out a poem she liked called 'Fathers'. The whole thing was personal, moving and even had people laughing at times. That's the kind of send off I'd like.

That's ace - I like that (a lot)
My dad wants a full jazz band at his, walking in front of the cortege, playing solemn songs to the grave and then upbeat numbers away from the cemetery.
Not thought about it myself - I am hoping I will be considerably past caring by that point. |

I don't want all that religeous dirge, it's soooo depressing
My dad was an atheist, but my mum arranged a 'Christian' service.... all that 'praise be' stuff just makes me cross, to me it has nothing to do with real life and the person....it's kinda surreal really. |

It's details like that which make a humanist service so much nicer - so personal. Your mum in law would, indeed, have loved it x |

A guy I went to uni with wanted to be cremated - then his ashes rolled up and smoked by his mates! Mind you he was the biggest stoner I've ever met!
Personally I'd love to be buried at sea! I'd be a lovely snack for a passing whale! |

"Anyone know if it is legal to get a burial at sea?"
yes it is but you need the paper work
Apart from the Death Certificate itself, certain documents are also required in order to obtain a licence for burial at sea, e.g. a Certificate of Freedom from Fever and Infection (available from the deceased’s GP or most recent doctor); a Notice of Intention to Remove a Body out of England (obtained from the Coroner) issued in exchange for a Certificate of Disposal (authorised by the Registrar of Deaths) |
