I had a dream... from 6 years old I wanted to do cars no not Mechanophilia, work on them.
My grandad was part of the vw team in the 60s with split screen campers and beetles, I wanted to that, 4 years later at 10 I started bamger racing and playing with cars now 35 and still do it just now I get paid for it.. well sort of. Running a business dont tend to leave you much in the motor trade. |

I wanted to be a fighter pilot but wasn’t smart enough. Left school sat the exam & was told I could train as ground crew, weapons, radar whatever. But they’d prefer it if I signed for nine straight off.
I was only just seventeen so didn’t join. Still wonder about it now..

Initially I wanted to be an actor in musicals acting on the west end or broadway, still do
I also wanted to be an astronaut but that dream went when I hit 6ft at about 12, a doctor but when I had to dissect a heart in school the smell made me gag and that dream went then as well |

I wanted to be a funeral director or embalmer.
That went wonky donkey thanks to my mother dearest and her making me take a job in a petrol garage so I could pay rent instead of accepting the extremely rare place I was offered on an embalming course. |

nanny. But I did two weeks in a nursery and put me off for life, love my own kids and my step kids but no, other than them lol.
Wanted to be a midwife in my early 20s but didn't get the grades at school and couldn't afford to get them.
Manage a hotel now with doughnut, since I was 17 ive worked in this line on and off.

Like a lot of people in this thread, I wanted to be a fighter pilot. Unfortunately I hit 6' when I was twelve years old. And then I discovered I was so bad at maths I've wondered if I'm dyscalculic. And then I discovered I'm shortsighted as well. Hah.
These days I just want to be happy. I've identified the things that make me happy, and now I just have to find as much of them as possible. |

Never really knew, it’s only work! I’ve been a teacher in Asia , a boat builder, played bass in a thrash metal band, started a 4WD company in NZ and sold pet and mountain bike insurance. Somehow I’ve ended up in Africa and Middle East consulting on urban densification for 5G |

Archaeologist and designer were two of mine too.
My mum recently unearthed some of my Barbie dolls wearing coloured in kitchen roll dresses and random household tat accessories  My daughter loves them . |

I wanted to be a princess, but once my mum explained that unfortunately I wasn't in fact part of the royal family I set my mind on becoming a vet.
I ended up as a palaeontologist so not quite the same. |

To join the Army, I loved Private Benjamin but my mum burst my bubble by pointing out it was nothing like that in the real world and as I wasn’t very good with authority she didn’t think I would fair to well   |

To join the Navy - which I did, and promptly left after about 3 months - biggest mistake of my life and one I shall regret to the grave, if only I could "have a word" with young and arrogant, thought he knew best 17 year old me |

When I was very young I wanted to be an air hostess, then as I grew older I wanted to be a policewoman and I became a volunteer special constable at 18. Then when I was 20 I wanted to join the army in the military police, I damaged my knee whilst training and that ended my dream.
Now I am a senior manager in the civil service, not quite my dream job from my childhood but so far has been a great career.

Junior school age, I wanted to work in the pits.
Senior school, join the navy as an Articifer. I failed the medical, due to a life changing injury
Sixth form, work for Ravenhead glass or Pilkingtons.
I worked for 16 years at an airport on the ramp, now a business consultant. |

I wanted to be an airline pilot - probably because of the number of planes I could see flying over my school
Began training as a train driver. Loved the job despite the crap equipment back in the BR days but decided that the money wasn't going to be good enough and qualified as an accountant instead!
Good choice as it turned out - winding down into retirement now at 54 |

But hazy trying to think back all the way, but I think I went through a few things.....some predictable, some less so.
I think the list was astronaut, scientist, racing driver, RAF pilot and then when realism kicked in, Electronics Engineer.
Ended up doing none of them!  |

Wanted to be a dietician/nutrionist.
Ended up with a degree in biotechnology, working in a pharma company.
Would still like to retrain but think that ship has sailed. Still into nutrition and fitness. Would love to be a PT and dietician.
