So i can cook But I've always seen it as necessity rather than something to be enjoyed.
I think part of the reason is I've lived alone for most of my adult life and it just seemed a bit pointless for one.
Now I have someone to cook for and over lockdown I've really found a Passion and enjoyment from cooking.
So my question is do you see cooking as something to be enjoyed or just something that is necessary? |

Just a necessity I like to get over and done with as quick as possible....

"I really like cooking, when I have the energy!
Some evenings it's just a massive chore though, and I end up having just pasta and bacon... But in general, I really like to cook!"
Yes that's like me really all though I do try at the weekends to make sure I try something new or different. |

It's tricky when you live alone because often it just seems like a lot of time effort and expense. |

I enjoy cooking, when the outcome is apriciated. Even if it's just me that's doing the apriciating...
It's fun to experiment and try new dishes as well.
But I also agree that sometimes it can seem more like a chore, and I just want to consume nourishment rather then having to go through all the effort of perpetration (and tidying up afterwards... ). |

For the singles batch cook and go just under time ,freeze it and when it’s too much pop it out the freezer ,and finish it off .
Many restaraunt dishes are pre prep ! |

Yep, if you cook enough to make it worthwhile you're eating the same thing for days..... or freezing it which defeats the point to me as you still have to cook something else ....

"Try cooking say 4 portions ,use one ,freeze 3 "
Yeah I know that's the sensible approach.... but once I've cooked all that it boils my piss to then have to cook something again tomorrow....
.... it's the price you pay in the eating department for singledom (is that a word?)

"I'm no Michel roux but I can follow a recipe. Bbcgoodfood website"
Love bbc good food.
I find the recipes easy to follow, I used to look for recipes on Pinterest But they were often an American so the measurements were different and I couldn't be bothered to keep converting.

It doesn't matter as long as you use the same size cup for all the ingredients |

Conversions exist online. Although cup sizes are different in different countries. I think the US is about 240mL capacity. Australia is 250 because like metric and shit. |

That’s nice you found a passion for it
I’ve always loved cooking for others since working in a restaurant as a kid. Always use opportunities when travelling to learn new techniques and recipes too, most skills come from experimenting and practice though and a few good tools and ingredients, I think anyone with the interest and passion can be a great cook. |

On the freezer note I had to get in the chest freezer this morning because I put bags of something in damp and they all welded together with a hammer and chisel lol |

Once you have done it a few times it doesn’t matter , go by taste or texture not measure. Like when making bread, add water until it feels right, then a little more as you want dough slightly wet.
Measuring doesn’t really help and recipes for beginners will incorrectly say use a floured surface to knead , but you shouldn’t. |

"No i do not like cooking. Quite happy with cereal or toast for dinner. Better things to do with my tine rather than be tied to a kitchen."
Absolutely this. We're alive for such a short period of time, and I'd like to minimise the amount of it I waste making food. |

I've always loved cooking, but lockdown made me more adventurous, because I couldn't go out like before. So, when the chippies were shut, I worked on doing beer battered fish at home. My bread baking has improved massively, and I seem to be making curry every other night. |

Love feeding people.. I am from family of feeders, who wouldnt let you leave the party without a little take away box to take with you, as food was made in vast quantities. Same goes for baking. Seeing ingredients come together to create something delicious and pleasing people is definitely a source of joy for me. |

This thread has actually gone along the lines I thought it might.
Single people saying they like it but it seems a bit pointless or a lot of effort.
I think part of the reason is food and eating is often associated with being social.

I'm much the same. It's a cultural/heritage thing for me and also a family one. I'm mixed and two sides of my background place a lot of emphasis on food. It's like a way of showing love and care for another and I love it when people cook for me unexpectedly. |

I love cooking and when I have the time I do batch cooking. My freezer is filled with homemade ready meals to use when I'm working and need a quick tea.
I enjoy trying new things out.
I'm no chef but I think I'm a good cook. Nobody would starve around me! |

I'm in a family of 5 so I cook most nights, I find it boring and a difficult to cook for everyone's tastes. But cooking something new that everyone likes (to restaurant standards ~ obvs) is a great feeling! |

Love to cook, from tried and tested recipes in my memory to trying a new recipe or just experimenting. I find it relaxes me at the end of the work day. Always set the table, candles on even if just me at the table (which is most nights) and sit down relax and enjoy what I have cooked. |

Cooking is cool. And get to eat it after! You have to be objective, many people are better in the kitchen than in bed, and eat three times a day vs having sex once in a while.
