Morning everyone - I go to lots of games & have been all over Europe watching my team & last night seemed a bit surreal - something that I've craved for years & not really able to celebrate properly - my head feels better today than what it would've after a party I guess !!

I'm a man u fan and I can honestly say well done liverpool a well deserved title I just hope that man u can regain what they had in the fergie days and challenge liverpool for it in the next couple of seasons it's a big gap to close but in ole I trust. Liverpool and man u are without question the 2 biggest clubs in england and it would be nice for them to both me fighting for the title each year I love the rivalry

Liverpool are like utd..they both are natonal(if not international clubs)
However it's a myth to say no one in the city supports them.Most people I know are reds and there are houses decorated all over the city in red. |

I’m a lifelong Liverpool fan and I live in the South East. A football club wouldn’t financially survive it was just supported by fans from the city it’s in.
I’ve seen so many lows and magnificent highs and this tops the lot. To same I’m as happy as a pig in shit is an understatement. I was starting to think I wouldn’t see us win another league title in my lifetime until Jurgen came along.
What an already superb achievement for all involved

Last season the blue mancs were worthy and deserved winners, this one it's us and as my best man who lives down south but is a Prestwick boy and was a season ticket holder in the bad and good days at Old Trafford said albeit through gritted teeth 'what Liverpool have done this season on the back of being so close last season is deserving of respect'..

I'm a born and bred Salford lad. It's United, Salford City, Salford Red Devils and Lancashire Cricket. Simples. Never got it how people can support teams hundreds of miles away, what sort of an affinity do you have to that club? Ok I get it people move around and maybe their parent is a native Manc/Scouser etc but 95% can't claim that. It's just weird IMO. |

I have never heard of a Manc Liverpool fan. That's just weird. However, at half time I could hear YNWA blaring out from someone's house, here in Essex. Liverpool were the original franchise I suppose whose popularity transcended beyond its own vicinity. Modern football fans or followers are following in this trend nowadays. I heard West Country accents and accents from all over the South at West Ham for example. However, strangest was hearing an Arsenal fan with a Manc accent, similar to your Liverpool fan. With such strong football heritage in his own region, why would they choose to support a rival city club? Baffling.
If Liverpool had to win then I'm glad they did it in a situation where the occasion was suppressed. There are aspects I do admire such as their sense of identity and regional pride. But they can be self righteous whiney bastards. |

My brother-in-law.. born in Wigan but brought up in Altrincham from a very early age - Liverpool fan. One of his best mates, born & brought up in Altrincham - Liverpool fan.
Lad I used to work with in his late 40's, born in Salford, always lived in Salford. - Liverpool fan.
As much as I dislike the Blue Noses round here at least they're local. Scouse supporting for a Manc/Salfordian is worthy of death by treason! |

Never got it how people can support teams hundreds of miles away, what sort of an affinity do you have to that club? I disagree. It's often been mentioned that football is tribal. Historically football was intrinsically linked to it's local community. But I guess these traditions have been eroded and teams are now like brands in the same way F1 teams are and most American sports franchises. Personally I find it quite a fraught experience discussing football with anyone who doesn't support their hometown club. It is hard to quantify passion or love for a team but it is also hard to correlate how someone can really experience the nuances and affinity of supporting a local team. |

It really has eroded, the world is different now, in the old days, you were born there, your parents were born there, you probably didn't move out of town, your kids were born there and so on. You couldn't watch all the teams on the TV. Local pride and local teams were all you had.
Both my parents aren't from here, I have no real affinity to where I was born, I didn't inherit a team from a parent as weren't into football.
Being half irish, United and Liverpool were the teams over there and my cousin got me into United when I was a kid. I had no idea they were gonna do so well over the years, almost got a bit embarrassing to say I was a United fan because of the success. When I was younger, there were United club shops all around the country and in dublin so the club has encouraged it too for the money.
The service stations are full of United fans when I go to games, there and back!
I work with kids and the amount of different team shirts they wear is unreal so it's only gonna get even more diverse.
Football, and purists won't like it, has moved away from being a local tribal thing. I respect people who do support their local team but don't berate anyone who doesn't.

If you come from somewhere which doesnt have a big football base its understandable..but to me football is about that local affinity.Once you take that away the club loses its identity.Its happened with utd and it will happen with liverpool too.
But football is a global game now and the bigger clubs are increasingly moving away from their core base.

I'd like to think if lpool won fuck all I'd still support them. I have never heard of a Manc Liverpool fan. That's just weird. However, at half time I could hear YNWA blaring out from someone's house, here in Essex. Liverpool were the original franchise I suppose whose popularity transcended beyond its own vicinity. Modern football fans or followers are following in this trend nowadays. I heard West Country accents and accents from all over the South at West Ham for example. However, strangest was hearing an Arsenal fan with a Manc accent, similar to your Liverpool fan. With such strong football heritage in his own region, why would they choose to support a rival city club? Baffling.
If Liverpool had to win then I'm glad they did it in a situation where the occasion was suppressed. There are aspects I do admire such as their sense of identity and regional pride. But they can be self righteous whiney bastards.
If only Fab had the option to Bold that last sentence. Nail on head!

My brother-in-law.. born in Wigan but brought up in Altrincham from a very early age - Liverpool fan. One of his best mates, born & brought up in Altrincham - Liverpool fan.
Lad I used to work with in his late 40's, born in Salford, always lived in Salford. - Liverpool fan.
As much as I dislike the Blue Noses round here at least they're local. Scouse supporting for a Manc/Salfordian is worthy of death by treason!

Yeah a border town of Manchester. Under 7 miles to Old Trafford and a couple more to the Emptihad. You've also got Stockport County in close proximity for those non-PL supporting fans.
Warrington is pretty much the town that splits Manchester and Liverpool so I can see why there would be a big split there as they only have a really small non-league team in the town.
But as others have said above you see all sorts of shirts around town these days. Barca, Real, Juve, PSG... kids are probably more likely to support a team that has the best ranking on FIFA than the one that's on their doorstep.  |

If Man U and Liverpool are the original franchises then Arsenal and Chelsea are the modern blueprint. West Ham have tried to adopt this approach. The result of this and of the Premier League in general is that 'outside' supporter fans get prioritised over the hardcore, loyal fan from down the road. TV schedules, away travelling, multiple replica kit releases, foreign tours, attracting casual day trippers... All of this dilutes the traditional fan experience at the expense of commercial gains worldwide in an attempt to extract maximum financial gains. Of course everyone has a right to be a supporter of whichever club they choose but as the poster above said, the core principles of a club no longer align with community values in many instances now. This is why, when a youth team player does well, fans can sense an extra layer of pride as that can be a connection to the past of local boy done good. They are an embodiment of us. |

What I don't understand is, why the media were saying Liverpool fans gathering outside the ground, thousands of them, was OK and good humerd. Yet then jump all over people going on a beach in Bournemouth. Bizarre!!!! |

However, at half time I could hear YNWA blaring out from someone's house, here in Essex. Liverpool were the original franchise I suppose whose popularity transcended beyond its own vicinity. Modern football fans or followers are following in this trend nowadays. I heard West Country accents and accents from all over the South at West Ham for example. However, strangest was hearing an Arsenal fan with a Manc accent, similar to your Liverpool fan. With such strong football heritage in his own region, why would they choose to support a rival city club? Baffling.
If Liverpool had to win then I'm glad they did it in a situation where the occasion was suppressed. There are aspects I do admire such as their sense of identity and regional pride. But they can be self righteous whiney bastards.

Yeah a border town of Manchester. Under 7 miles to Old Trafford and a couple more to the Emptihad. You've also got Stockport County in close proximity for those non-PL supporting fans.
Warrington is pretty much the town that splits Manchester and Liverpool so I can see why there would be a big split there as they only have a really small non-league team in the town.
But as others have said above you see all sorts of shirts around town these days. Barca, Real, Juve, PSG... kids are probably more likely to support a team that has the best ranking on FIFA than the one that's on their doorstep.

But I bet you are yet to see a day tripping fan wearing, say a Man U shirt in the home end when it was Liverpool v MU or even Liverpool v Watford. It has been seen umpteen times at the London Stadium. But yeah, this fan in the non West Ham top probably paid top dollar for his seat and spent a healthy amount in merchandise and overpriced beverages. The regular fan probably just bought a programme if that. And fixtures rearranged to suit Sky causing fans to take a day or even two off work, deal with awkward travel scheduling, just shows the disdain corporations have for the loyal supporters. Yet due to their loyalty fans will continue to be mugged off. And if not, clubs will hope that casual fans who don't always get opportunities to attend will take up any slack. Sky/Premier League greed has killed the game. |

I think I read that Pep expected a drop off in levels. It is hard for any team to be constantly at such a peak season after season, especially for modern teams with high work rates. Also, this is why Pep doesn't stay at clubs for a long time. He would have been at the end of his cycle so I think he was OK to let this season slip domestically. The CL which the owners crave is still within their grasp so it could still be a successful season for them. At least they now know for definite where their weakness lies and will be able to buy accordingly. |

There is a degree of arrogance but the likes of Pep and Jurgen buy very carefully. If they cannot buy that perfect fit then they would rather not buy at all. Had Laporte not gotten injured it may have been a little closer. |
