For me it would have to be the 80's.Strangely have more appreciation for it now than I did at the time

Has to be the 80's. Although not necessarily chart music. Watching the totp's on bbc4 made me realise how much good stuff in that decade didn't get a sniff of the charts.

The 1870s produced my two favourite pieces of music - Brahms's 2nd Symphony and Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto.
