"Queen Elizabeth as visited 52 of the 54 countries of the Commonwealth during her 60 years as monarch, some of them many more than once, the exceptions being Rwanda (joined 2009) and Cameroon (2005). Last night's concert featured people from all over the Commonwealth who looked up at Her Majesty in awe. I saw those young African girls who were simply amazed to find themselves in such a place performing in front of a remarkable woman. They could never have dreamed they'd ever get so close to an icon of the 20th & 21st Centuries. She made that possible with her untiring and unswerving leadership of a host of countries allied to the UK through a Common bond - herself. For 60 years she has given of herself for the sake of the Kingdom she swore to serve unfailingly in 1952, and she asked us to help her in keep her promise back then. We'll not see her like again." 
It's been a lovely celebration of an amazing sovereign..
To hear the crowd shouting long live the queen made me feel So proud.

It is said one of the few times of sadness for her was losing Britannia her floating home . In recognition of her reign i would hope the country build her a magnificent replacement. Apart from the costs of the Police & additional security, only £1m has been given by the govt for these celebrations. The bulk of it has been borne by the Royals themselves or by private donation. I hope The Duke gets better but at 90 years old I can't see him lasting too much longer considering he was in hossie in December. We'll lose him and Mrs T within the next 12 months I think. "I sincerely hope not, but I reckon you are right
Haters of the Royal Family forget that these people are good people, no evil runs through their veins (let's forget about the tirants that have reigned before now ).
These people have very little control over their lives, constant engagements and ALWAYS in the public eye. I'd hate not to be able to visit the local supermarket or pop to the cinema without a massive fuss.... you can see how fed up and concerned our Queen looks the last couple of days. She wants nothing more than to be at her husbands bedside yet she goes through the paces carrying out her royal duties. | |||

to be fair, I bet the people of your grannies generation who have been watching the processions and have watched the Queen has been soaked in memories and are having the a great time. I bet care homes have been a great place to be as they celebrate and watch.
and for that generation alone.... for them to smile, laugh and think back to lost family members from yesteryear..
that is worth a million quid alone.

Apart from the costs of the Police & additional security, only £1m has been given by the govt for these celebrations. The bulk of it has been borne by the Royals themselves or by private donation. I think the whole four-day event has been magnificent; from the Flotilla on Sunday, to the concert last night and the lighting of the beacons, to todays more official ceremonies. For a million quid of taxpayers money. Not bad. Not bad at all.

I believe there are rules on what the Queen can accept as a personal gift and what she receives as head of state. Gifts presented to her in her official capacity as head of state are considered property of the Crown Estate and disposed of / distributed by the personnel who control that body. Even the property the Royal Family uses are not theirs to sell/renovate as private individuals and are retained/maintained by the Crown Estate - which ultimately is owned by the people. | |||
