That you don’t want to do ?

So you wake up, have a quick fab, a wank maybe for some, grab a nice cuppa, bit more fabbing, Amazon , Love Honey, bit of retail therapy, Facebook, start looking at holidays and flights, start work, kill a few simple emails another cuppa and some toast mmmmm.

But what about that email that’s been there nearly a month that will take a days analysis ? Or that project half started in the garden you lost interest in ? Or starting that diet, or working on the budget, or dumping that negative person, or going for a long run when it’s cold and wet.

How do you motivate yourself to do the things you don’t want to do but should do ?

Prizes for the best answers x

"Delegate "

You can’t delegate what you know you should do personally. I can’t send my team out in the rain for a run and still benefit.

Think about how you'll feel after you've achieved it.

Tell yourself you need to exercise, it's good for you mentally and physically, plus the results are worth the pain

If it’s something that won’t take a long time but you’ve been procrastinating on it because you can’t be arsed, then wait until you’re busting for a piss and ban yourself from going until it’s finished hahaha

I always give myself a reward after I’ve completed the task.

It could be cold beer after a DIY task that you hate, hot bath with a bath bomb after exercise. a look at Fab after some work

A treat is a good motivator for me.

Anyone got anything needs doing for a treat?

Visualising the results is good

Can be hard on some things

Rewards are good to get you going, also builds a bit of self discipline

We have plenty of construction projects half started if you are offering to do a for a cold beer will snap your hand off

With great difficulty.

I sort of have a chat to myself in my head. One part of me gives it the “oh i really can’t be arsed to do that today” and the the other half of me acts like a motivational speaker and comes out with all sorts of cheesy stuff to egg myself on. A bit like a Rugby Coach telling his team to shape up or ship out.

I try to do the really shitty stuff first to get it out of the way, that way the day just gets better, rather than it building up to something i dread doing.

That’s a really good tip for work related or housework - like the rocks , pebbles and sand in the bowl ,always put the rocks in the bowl first

These 4 & 5am starts work well for that, it’s quiet no one is awake, no one is online in the UK emailing me and concentration levels are high.

Do you look in the mirror and say “no pain no gain, I’m strong ! I can do this today !!!!”

I have had some calls that can get so aggressive where I literally have to visualise putting body armour on ! !

I have to be the laziest self disciplined person I know, there are plenty times when I don't have the will or motivation to get things done, but then I have a few words with myself and get shit done.

This can be to do with excersise, work, cleaning or whatever. But since I am like this, I always allow myself a "do fuck all day" every now and again

Some good stuff there

Being honest with, and knowing yourself is essential, even if a little negative, but I’m sure there are others much worse who dint even know it!

A conversation with yourself is always good. I tend to schedule and prepare for the really important ones , like ones about beige food or porn.

Like the do fuck all day idea. A bit like my diet routine , I have a weepy 2 hour rampage window where I eat as much pizza and chocolate as I physically can, it works

I’m not fessing up to that! although I have contemplated slapping my face and throwing cold water over me, but I think that might be a step too far

It's this for me

Basically mental gymnastics

I only must do things that at the very end mean I'm more happy , less worry , more prepared

Ensuring I'm fully aware of the benefits I can expend the effort

Beyond that though there is an air of achievement the pride of discipline and mind control and beyond that it's always self discovery

Obviously the platitudes the sweet ain't so sweet without the sour and earn your downhill help the psychological positivity and fortitude x

But yes understanding the concept of delayed pleasure and empathy help x

I put it off and put it off and put it off and put it off and put it off

Then one day I just do it without thinking about it. If I think about it I just put it off.

I have this internal struggle with myself every time I have to write a TMA for my masters degree.. i start about 6 weeks before its due, thinking about a subject and structure etc..then do nothing for 4 weeks, then panic for a few days and finally throw something together over 24 hours and deliver an hour before deadline

Every time i say I'll do it differently but it always ends up the same... with me trying to kid myself I must work better under pressure

I have a notebook with a todo list for the day. It's always in front of me when I am having breakfast.

Sometimes you just need to clear your mind for a moment, breathe and then make a forced start. Try a countdown 5-4-3-2-1 Act - in a small way. The rest often just happens , but if not at least you got a step closer
