Boiling Kettle

Jump to: Newest in thread

By (user no longer on site) OP     over a year ago

Inspired by a another post got me thinking about how many minutes we wait for the kettle to boil....

And what do you do in those few minutes. Do you;

1- Stand and wait for it to boil?

2- Go off and do something else

3- Put the kettle on thenforget about it

For those who say 2 what are the typical things you do while you wait?

Added up over the week that's a lot of minutes

Usually go off and do something else, get distracted and forget about it until half hour later

I'll do all sorts from washing, washing up, cleaning the bathroom, referring the kids. Depends what needs doing

In a ball gown because that's how we roll in N. Devon

This morning it was a combination of 1 and 3 for me. Put the kettle on, stood there and floated off into a daydream, then the sound of it boiling woke me from said daydream, I picked up the mug and went to the garden for the coffee drinking.

Without actually putting the water into the mug. Only realised when I wondered why my hand wasn't getting warm around the mug.

Put teabag and sugar in cup, get milk out. Faff(a wonderful pottering faff at that) . Pour water into cup. Gentle squeeze of bag against side of cup. Go for a wee. Faff some more. Look out the window. Water the plants. Put teabag in bin, pour milk into cup, take cup outside to the balcony. People watch and look at the sky.

And perve on Fab.

Mine is a "fast boil" kettle. I pour in just enough water for each cup I am making. If it's just for me by the time I fill cup with milk and tea or coffee it's boiled in a minute or so.

Kind of a 2, I usually have a small task in hand to do nearby whilst it's heating. I only heat up the required amount of water needed, so I know the time for it.

And, afterwards I add just enough water for the next time, so it absorbs the heat, saving it from waste and to make the next kettle use quicker.

Go and do something else. I have a fancy kettle that beeps when it's boiled or heated to temperature. It's loud enough that it's basically impossible to miss.

"Inspired by a another post got me thinking about how many minutes we wait for the kettle to boil....

And what do you do in those few minutes. Do you;

1- Stand and wait for it to boil?

2- Go off and do something else

3- Put the kettle on thenforget about it

For those who say 2 what are the typical things you do while you wait?

Added up over the week that's a lot of minutes

"

number 3 for me 3- Put the kettle on then forget about it

Ive burnt a couple of kettles with that one on a gas hob metal kettle.

I have to use an electric one then 3 comes into it again so end up doing a 1 instead.

"Put teabag and sugar in cup, get milk out.

Ooh a multitasker! how I wish I could "

Practice makes perfect. Just be careful with handling the hot liquid.

I don't have a kettle. I have one of those thingies that delivers a cup of hot water in seconds.... soooooooo

I push the button, put the button under, open the coffee n put a spoonful in the cup, then screw the lid on the coffee and put it away while the water finishes splurting.

Job done.

My Own Little World

I only put the minimum in the kettle as I'm the only one in the house who drinks coffee/tea.

So I put the coffee n sugar in the mug while waiting, wipe down the counter because I am the only person in the house who is qualified to do this apparently

Little pottering about chores while I wait.

I don't drink tea so I hardly ever boil a kettle.

My usual scenario is somebody asks for a cup of tea so I put the kettle on. Either that's the last they ever hear of having a cuppa or I say to them that it is their responsibility to remind me at the appropriate time that they asked for tea because I'm just going to forget all about.

I'm just not programmed to think that I want tea and ending up with one. Getting a brew with me is hit and miss.

I don’t drink tea much at the moment.

I use a Nespresso mac_ine which is super quick, I also had loads of credit on my account that I hadn’t used so bought their super fancy barista milk frother......it’s great fun to watch

I need to upgrade to a bean to cup mac_ine. The milk frother is fantastic and the coffee is great, but it’s not fresh ground beans....

First one will be sorting the porridge & OJ, second is doing the toast, third is getting the biscuits or cake out and last one is opening the chocolate, so all time filled well

You'll do anything to get out of going to the chippy!

Stop being a drama llama...No room on my rock for two Llamas of drammatical properties

Whaaaaaaaaat!?

I am in pain here because bumped my headless head on your thread brick wall, which was not there when I came in last time!

What I need is a cuppa, but if it's too much trouble I am going to the chippy... if you get mushy peas with them don't blame me! Things are a bit blurry right now as my head is starting to grow back...

And don't give me that look...

Behind them shades, I can tell you know! I used to own a pair before you blew my head off

Who knew making a cuppa could be so much drama. Like a soap opera episode in a cafe "

If your head was blown up you wouldn't be able to drink your cup of tea

Omg!

Chips were nice though ta

We're like Eastenders tbh without the misery

Stare out onto my neighbours opposite seeing what plethora of ways they manage to break lockdown rules. Teasing their dog by waving to it and making it bark.

I am sat here with a lovely cuppa and dunking biscuits so thought let's have a catch up in here... how come Mabel gets a lovely reply for forgetting about the kettle

When I bought my new kettle I used to just look at it because it turns blue when switched on! I know I know it's the precious moments in life like that

But if I said that, you would have been "tut tut" and kissing your teeth... not the kind of kisses I like btw ... did Mabel put a spell on you with her wand?

Don't make me get my wand out! Nah I wouldn't want anyone to spit their beverage out

Diagonally Parked in a Parallel Universe

For my 1st coffee of the day I put the kettle on then prepare my breakfast whilst the kettle boils - usually a slice of toast or a bowl of bran flakes.

For my 2nd cup, if it's a weekday, I put the kettle on at 10.25am, go for a pee, then make my coffee and sit down for PopMaster. I'm working from home and using my dining table as a desk so I use this time as my morning break.

Us ordinary blokes from the Midlands need to stick together otherwise we will have no biscuits left! I would tell her myself, but I did the double dunk and biscuit fell in! My timing was off so need to sort this mess out

I normally wait till the kettle boils, ofteb by standing near watching and trying to reassess my life in the time it takes to do so, but then the kettle is done so I have a nice brew to make and distract myself with

2 then 3, then 2 and again, 3 again, then eventually 1 because I’ve already had to boil the kettle twice and I still don’t have a coffee

Not sure if this makes me weird, but I'd have poured the water out after second time and boiled new water

#1 normally, as I’ve got a one cup kettle so it boils fairly fast.

No it doesn't make you weird because I know plenty of people that do that including myself at home. It's just a habit I have... instinctively pick up kettle to replace water. I also know many that don't especially when used to be in office environment. Kettle filled to the max and people would re-boil till someone couldn't get a full cup so would have to refill. Ah the good old days when you used to go into work

Did you get what Jamie was saying 1st time? Because I was scrolling up and down trying to figure it out! 2 then 3... then 2 and 3 again or was it 2 again and 3 again... then 1 ... now i'm feeling dizzy! Heads gone again

"Usually go off and do something else, get distracted and forget about it until half hour later

I'll do all sorts from washing, washing up, cleaning the bathroom, referring the kids. Depends what needs doing

This is me too! I put the kettle on, go off and think about Llamas and chips then forget completely that I put the kettle on then wonder where the tea is "

Hahaha yup, both of the above for me...or make it then wander off before wandering where the tea is, remembering it has been made but now cold and then having to put it in the microwave...to then wander off and forget again *face palm L xx

Thank you so much to this study into human nature. Adam will collate the results and input the data into a bar chart! - my favourite chart type.

Nobody said they sing while waiting for the kettle...

Or do sudoku....
