Inspired by a another post got me thinking about how many minutes we wait for the kettle to boil....
And what do you do in those few minutes. Do you;
1- Stand and wait for it to boil?
2- Go off and do something else
3- Put the kettle on thenforget about it
For those who say 2 what are the typical things you do while you wait?
Added up over the week that's a lot of minutes

Usually go off and do something else, get distracted and forget about it until half hour later
I'll do all sorts from washing, washing up, cleaning the bathroom, referring the kids. Depends what needs doing |

In a ball gown because that's how we roll in N. Devon |
This morning it was a combination of 1 and 3 for me. Put the kettle on, stood there and floated off into a daydream, then the sound of it boiling woke me from said daydream, I picked up the mug and went to the garden for the coffee drinking.
Without actually putting the water into the mug. Only realised when I wondered why my hand wasn't getting warm around the mug.

Singing to the choir there sister!
Although I did once start with. Atea bag and end up with a weird tes/coffee hybrid because I went into auto pilot and put coffee in the mug, forgetting I'd wanted tea.
I think maybe I need someone to make my hot drinks for me... |

Always something to do in the kitchen. I kind of like the kettle boiling as it gives me a target to get something done. I’ll clean inside my microwave or wipe over the washing machine or sleeping with the enemy the inside of my cupboards or just play with my bunnies as they normally hang around in the kitchen. |

Kind of a 2, I usually have a small task in hand to do nearby whilst it's heating. I only heat up the required amount of water needed, so I know the time for it.
And, afterwards I add just enough water for the next time, so it absorbs the heat, saving it from waste and to make the next kettle use quicker. |

I push the button, put the button under, open the coffee n put a spoonful in the cup, then screw the lid on the coffee and put it away while the water finishes splurting.
Job done. |

I only put the minimum in the kettle as I'm the only one in the house who drinks coffee/tea.
So I put the coffee n sugar in the mug while waiting, wipe down the counter because I am the only person in the house who is qualified to do this apparently

I don't drink tea so I hardly ever boil a kettle.
My usual scenario is somebody asks for a cup of tea so I put the kettle on. Either that's the last they ever hear of having a cuppa or I say to them that it is their responsibility to remind me at the appropriate time that they asked for tea because I'm just going to forget all about.
I'm just not programmed to think that I want tea and ending up with one. Getting a brew with me is hit and miss.

"What could be more important?!
We havent discussed dunking techniques, teabag in water time/technique, teapots, or the whole teabags versus tealeaves debate yet.
Things could get heated.. "
That is far too complex for my pretty little lady brain to cope with!
Teabags have to be those triangle things... No question |

"Ive burnt a couple of kettles with that one on a gas hob metal kettle.
I have to use an electric one then 3 comes into it again so end up doing a 1 instead.
Sounds like you get in a bit of a tizzle with your kettle!
weve ended up with a very smokey house due to melting the kettle handle onto the kettle itself its been on for that long.
Im not the only one thats done it either "
I did that too! I pretended I liked it like that |

"Bloody whistling in my ears. Must turn kettle off
Oh you have one of those old fashioned type affairs you heat on the cooker
What's a cooker? I'm sat here outside the cave driftwood glowing in the dark steam rising from the kettle...
Sorry got to go its whistling again.
Time for coffee..."
Sounds like the opening to a story... Was disappointed when there was no more! Was getting into that |

I don’t drink tea much at the moment.
I use a Nespresso machine which is super quick, I also had loads of credit on my account that I hadn’t used so bought their super fancy barista milk frother......it’s great fun to watch
I need to upgrade to a bean to cup machine. The milk frother is fantastic and the coffee is great, but it’s not fresh ground beans.... |

Thank you for re-confirming what Annie does haha she can make brownies. They looked good, but could you do the taste test sometime and let me know. For the record I don't have a microwave and flicking through TV channels can be a good use of time because it saves time later!

Depends on time of day,
First one will be sorting the porridge & OJ, second is doing the toast, third is getting the biscuits or cake out and last one is opening the chocolate, so all time filled well |

I am sat here with a lovely cuppa and dunking biscuits so thought let's have a catch up in here... how come Mabel gets a lovely reply for forgetting about the kettle
When I bought my new kettle I used to just look at it because it turns blue when switched on! I know I know it's the precious moments in life like that
But if I said that, you would have been "tut tut" and kissing your teeth... not the kind of kisses I like btw ... did Mabel put a spell on you with her wand?

For my 1st coffee of the day I put the kettle on then prepare my breakfast whilst the kettle boils - usually a slice of toast or a bowl of bran flakes.
For my 2nd cup, if it's a weekday, I put the kettle on at 10.25am, go for a pee, then make my coffee and sit down for PopMaster. I'm working from home and using my dining table as a desk so I use this time as my morning break. |

No it doesn't make you weird because I know plenty of people that do that including myself at home. It's just a habit I have... instinctively pick up kettle to replace water. I also know many that don't especially when used to be in office environment. Kettle filled to the max and people would re-boil till someone couldn't get a full cup so would have to refill. Ah the good old days when you used to go into work
Did you get what Jamie was saying 1st time? Because I was scrolling up and down trying to figure it out! 2 then 3... then 2 and 3 again or was it 2 again and 3 again... then 1 ... now i'm feeling dizzy! Heads gone again |

I'll do all sorts from washing, washing up, cleaning the bathroom, referring the kids. Depends what needs doing
This is me too! I put the kettle on, go off and think about Llamas and chips then forget completely that I put the kettle on then wonder where the tea is "
Hahaha yup, both of the above for me...or make it then wander off before wandering where the tea is, remembering it has been made but now cold and then having to put it in the microwave...to then wander off and forget again *face palm L xx |
