Not really as I see it I would put it all down to personal preference.

I tend to do it when messaging someone i like, perhaps its me being over familiar with a person.

In person i'm not a 'huggy/kissy' kind of person, but think that end a message with 'xxx's' is harmless. Never had a complaint from it.

If you like them then yeah, if you dont, then a full stop is guaranteed to piss a person off

Guilty of sending them in work emails too - frequently - to such an extent boss now sends em back - oh oooops !!

If people don't put them on a message to me, I don't reciprocate unless I think it should have one i.e. if they are annoying me they don't get one

Yeah I just get into the habit and really have to concentrate to not send them to inappropriate people. Plenty of times I've accidentally sent them to my bloke mates, haha embarrassing!
