I agree with Bike Monkey, it’s also about the who. The specific dynamic between me and another lends itself to different types of sex, and it’s about tuning into our particular bubble and mood too. |

"What do you prefer? should vanilla just be an icecream scoop?"
No. Though I'm probably not giving you the answer you want I really have little time for the air of superiority some kinksters an swingers show towards 'vanilla', it's pretty pathetic and very self absorbed. Some people only want vanilla sex, why judge them? |

No. Though I'm probably not giving you the answer you want I really have little time for the air of superiority some kinksters an swingers show towards 'vanilla', it's pretty pathetic and very self absorbed. Some people only want vanilla sex, why judge them?"
Firstly it is vanilla people who have judged kinksters for centuries as being sick perverts. Don't forget most kinks are labelled paraphilias and only in the last 10 years taken off official medical lists as perversion or a disorder needing treatment.
Despite the popularity of 50SOG actually admitting your kink is non sexual is still judged as weird so it is the 'nillas that do the adverse judging. As someone who has done kink in swinging clubs, you overhear the rude comments.
Secondly sex is pretty hot, but those who are serious in kink dig deeper. It is about those dark desires you can't mention in public or even in private. It is going a level beyond sex and swapping partners. It is commitment and understanding. Most people would agree that a relationship is more important than casual sex.
Yes there are those that identify themselves as Master or as couples experienced in kink. But it usually comes down to ordering someone to have sex or tying someone down and having sex with them. Again I don't knock it but there is no getting to know another and the intensity that it brings. That is why some people in kink have a feeling of superiority it is because they are looking beyond the superficial.
On the other hand they may just be a dick.

I was heavily into the BDSM scene for a lot of years and they looked down on Swingers as just dirty pervs looking for sex. The Swingers looked at the BDSMers as dirty pervs just wanting to get off on doing bad things to each other. The Vanillas looked at both groups thinking they were all just sexual dirty pervs.
So, people's opinions are like arseholes, we all have one but no one's smells any sweeter than the other. (or however you want the saying to go) |

I always think we are quite vanilla compared to what I read on here but compared to my vanilla friends we are probably kinky.
We're probably vanilla with a bit of fruity sauce and sprinkles.
Fab is definitely making me more kinky though and I'm enjoying exploring this side more x |

I really like this description "
Yeah, me too
I've always thought I was on the kinky side of vanilla, if that makes sense. But seeing some of the things discussed on here I'm not so sure any more |

I don't even know what vanilla is.
I think it's easy to say that BDSM is kink but what is vanilla?
People use it to mean boring but is that what it is?
Is it missionary?
What if you have your hands bound? Is it still vanilla?
I don't know?
In fact...I might start a thread and ask! |
