A hypothetical.
Today the government announces a new app to get you back out there. You will be able to go to all gathering places, meet people..basically go back to normal with only one change. You must register yourself with a government app. Once registered you will be given a pin number. All pubs, airports, restaurants, festivals etc etc will have a registration thingy and you ll enter your pin and on you go..no pin no entry. This app will give government access to you at all times and what you are doing, who with etc and can monitor your health. Those not having the app will not be able to enjoy the entertainments industry, holidays abroad..basically any gatherings but you will be able to go about your business as usual for daily life as in shopping.
Would you load it. Load it today..go to the pub tomorrow!

I would, for a limited period of time.
It's not accurate to say they know what you are doing. They would know where you are and could infer what you are doing in some cases like if you are in a shop or a restaurant, but at home they wouldn't know if you are shagging or knitting. |

Yes. I have nothing to hide and if the government wanted to, they can track us now anyway. |

If they want to waste their time tracking me then that's absolutely fine with me, but if it ever became intrusive or restrictive I'd be very quick to smash my phone and sign up to the resistance movement |

most of the country if this is actually a genuine option would actually agree to this but i for one would always see this as an infringement of my civil liberty and would never agree to it, i also don't agree with CCTV cameras or the premise i have nothing to hide i dont but I'm damn sure i dont want to be tracked everywhere i go and judged by everything i choose to do, you can turn your phone off remember or leave it at home. |

" It will be interesting to see in what direction the hospitality/entertainment arena goes. To have 'power over the people' you would have to regulate/control their pleasures.
Start there and you have most of them. The rest would be easy. |

GCHQ probably already watch what we are doing anyway so what’s an app going to change about it, most people log what they do on apps, go for a run, use an app, go for a meal, use an app, go into hospital, use an app |

I suspect they already are and do as its what feeds the political system as to the mood of the people. Theres another angle though that Im curious about. In the last week a movement has re emerged in America that has hacked Minneapolis and Chicage police depts files and effectively blocked all their comms or had. They threatened to make public the police files. Would this be a worry. From what I ve read the government have said they wont be held responsable for any hacking on, say the trace and track app. Would outside hackers not give a little worry to people. |

Exactly
And your they can track the location of your phone to within a couple of feet anyway so this won't make a huge amount of difference to most people in the grand scheme of things.
I always think it's amazing that if, 30 years ago, the government had said you had to carry a device with you at all that times that can pinpoint your exact location anywhere in the world at any given moment, civil liberty groups would have been up in arms at the invasion of privacy.
However, tell people they show off to the Joneses - whilst simultaneously giving marketeers around the world info about their every desire - and they happily do it all voluntarily |

A lot of this information is already collected about us, google Apple and Facebook know exactly where we all are. They can infer what we are doing from our location because they already know a lot about those locations. If it’s a business or a private residence.
One thing to consider swinging clubs show up in google maps, so google will know when your playing.
The government can get access to this information, this new app will Just make it more readily accessible for them.
Question is who do you trust with this information and what can they do with it |

Very true..some would see this as progression to a better society, some would say not. I suspect the requests that we download an app from higher powers is merely to cover their asses..gives the appearance of working with us but if they really wanted it they could do it through the backdoor with few being any the wiser. How times have changed eh? |

That is part of my question. Those sitting in hudgement rately follow their own guidelines and everyone has their own ideal..but also the hackers are often in step with officialdom so is that a worry to consider. Someone yesterday had a phone call. It told them their phone had given them heads up to them veing exposed to covid 19 through trace and track. The person queried it when they asked for all contact details of friends they d been in contact with and their bank details as it would cost £500 to send them some test kit for their isolation period. The person hung up. But the scared and the vulnerable may not. So already the scammers are on this. So if you read this share the info..in fact I may put a warning thread up. Already the scammers on an app that isn t yet in use. |
