Like most of you I’m disgusted with what happened to this man, but it got me thinking are most of us unconsciously race st..??
WTF I hear you say..
Let me explain, I grew up with love thy neighbour, the black and white minstrel show, and the cartoon reference to jam and colour of brown..
Yes I know, but it’s how I grew up, I’m ashamed of the way we catalogued black people.it wasn’t my choice it was our predecessors yet still now I’m horrified by the way we treated people.
One of my best friends at school was called by every one s@xbo Harris.
Now I’m disgusted with that , he even represented his country at the cross country event, now I think my generation has been institutionalised, but we know and understand how wrong this is.
I cannot imagine how these people get through life being treated this way, and that has to change!!!!
I implore all of you to read this and respond honestly and say publicly “Sorry, you’re human like me, and sorry for the way you’re people have been treated over last few hundred years”
Sorry isn’t enough, but it’s a start.. |

It's a cliche, but many of us harbour prejudice feelings based on experiences, influences and environment? Its whether we act on them that truly matters?
I was brought up in an area that had an extreme hatred for the English. Probably did influence me in some ways, but you grow.
So I guess prejudice is a better word than racist. |

Each and everyone one of us is a product of our upbringing, schooling and social interactions. You just need to hope that with maturity comes the capacity to question why we think a certain way and I mean that with regards to every area of life....relationships, political beliefs etc. Then maybe we can see where we've fucked up and try to rectify things. |

I think you're right op. I've been thinking this a while now that racism is so deeply ingrained in British society that most people dont even notice it going on and just brush it off. Like when I was a kid growing up in the south east suburban council estate pretty much everyone around me was racist. And I really fucking resent that, having racism and racist language drummed into my head from a young age, and its still there in my mind, like a hideous parasitic worm burrowed in... |

That would be great, but just about every thread I've read on here related to this topic reveals that rather than critical self- reflection, subconscious racism is so ingrained in some people that they devote all their energy in deflection, constructing narratives that protect their world view, rather than question it. |

Well...I can't speak for other people..as I said, you need to hope that maturity brings the ability for self reflection. It doesn't for everyone though. I try to make a point of listening to interviews, podcasts and any other source of info I can from sources that I would normally, instinctively disagree with...It can reinforce what I already believed or I can have a lightbulb moment and realise I've been an utter fanny.

I'd also add, it's very difficult to have white people sympathise/empathise with what minorities face or feel. To recognise that history isnt black or white, the affects carry on and that we have racism.
Noone expects everyone to go through what someone else has but to understand what we have gone through is better.
I feel like we have more emotions for a dog accidentally step on than we do for other humans.

This also comes up if you ask anyone to interrogate where their desires come from and how they could be a product of racist society. But you know, you’re stupid and just want to sleep with people that hate you. Lmao |

We cant change what has happened in the past but we can influence the future and perhaps accept a human being is a human being and not something to be downtrodden.
.... that's my view for what it's worth. |

I guess in many respects I grew up differently as I suffered big time at the hands of my own kin, education system and people outside of those to the point I am now having to cope with the after effects. So my prejudice was against authority only not different cultures etc. I ve always treat people how I find them and learned young not to trust the judgement of those that say they know better. To be honest Im more sceptical of people and find my peace amongst nature as they were my comfort and my strength from a young age. |

Many of us are products of privileged systems in one way or another. That's painful to unpack, and ongoing. Many don't, or won't. So justifications occur as to why the system is as it is. The idea that our own individual work might be undermined by our status in society might be offensive, because we've worked so hard and suffered so much.
... Problem is, just because it hurts to hear, doesn't mean it's not true.
We all have a lot of work to do. |

A man was restrained by another man, other men didn't interfere to change the occurance, a man was killed (murdered) men have been arrested and charged.
A man was walking along a road and was attacked by two men and was beheaded.
Two men were arrested and charged
The Law has been followed, one caused riots and looting one caused "outcry"
All lives matter, the difference is....
In the news....

Regarding the various views on this murder. ... I’m shocked at the outpouring of “taking a knee” sportsman in American ..the first guy (kaspernik) who took a knee last year was castigated for his actions ... he lost his contracts and his future ... now lots of his fellow NFL stars are taking the knee ... the predominantly white owners called for his head and orange chops (trump) called him a national disgrace ... how things have changed. |

It's amazing how people say peaceful protest should be the only answer after what happened to him. Just astonishing. |

Until the philosophy which hold one race superior and another inferior is finally and permanently discredited and abandoned.
That until the're no longer 1st class and 2nd class citizens of any nation.
Until the color of a man's skin is of no more significance than the color of his eyes, That until the basic human rights are equally guaranteed to all without regard to race. |
