If it's nerve pain then I'd say you're best off speaking to a physiotherapist who may be able to advise you on some non pharmacological treatment
There are some 'MSK' services in certain areas which may help, self referral with telephone consultations...
Alternatively a doctor my prescribe short term use of: amitriptyline, Pregabalin or gabapentin
Although worth while exploring the cause of the nerve pain and correcting any underlying issues

Yep, I had neuralgia, the dreaded face ache, on and off for years, thankfully it's not been around for nearly two years. You have ny utmost, heartfelt, sympathies.
Opiates and alcohol were my go to drugs. Not good for you at all so that comes with a severe warning, be adult about it and be careful.
Tramadol was my emergency opiate. Great stuff if your GP will prescribe it, but I can't stress enough, go steady, measure your responses and take care.

I had been on amitriptyline for a while but now I am on pregabalin for nerve damage in my arm. It’s dulled the sharp pain that comes from change of temperature but it doesn’t help with loss of movement/strength. I am waiting for an operation to correct it, but it’s hard going. I’m not sure what your tolerance to painkillers is like, mines pretty rubbish so it’s trial and error with dosages, it takes time to get right- if you do go down that route.

That's a good call, amitriptyline worked well for me at the beginning, god that was years ago, but it stopped after a while... |

Was going to suggest freeze sprays and creams, but looking at other responses I guess they wouldnt touch it if its a long term thing and not a sudden twinge  |

I got prescribed amytriptylene and tramadol for sciatica but if they helped I wouldn’t want the pain without as was still in agony. Eventually had gdocs coming in two or three times a day for injections in my back for over a week and that did give more relief |

Thank you and hugs! Seems I should go back to the GP as I've only previously been given ibuprofen which doesn't touch it and codeine which I only take short term when things are really bad as its not a fun drug to stay on. |

I use a TENS machine, used to have pain every day but since I used the machine its now about once a month.
I stopped using the machine as much so I think theres a balance to use it every few weeks before the pain sets in ...seems to be working  |

Speak to your doctor, maybe a combination of Naproxen and Codeine will cut it.. keep the codeine for night as it makes you drowsy..(can tend to make you constipated tho) |

I was going to recommend an osteopath to release the nerve but if it's related to endometriosis then that's probably not a good idea and probably wouldn't work.

I have been diagnosed with lumber stenosis (slipped disc) by a physio therapist.. This will be confirmed by a MRI scan but due to the present situation, that may never happen.. |

Yeah its either from it growing on the nerves or the nerves are just in the areas affected by scar tissue .
Thank you. Yeah it's annoying. I also worry about the long term effects of all the ibuprofen. Plus it doesn't even touch the nerve pain. It often helps with the cramping though or when I had pain from cysts.
Yeah I should I know, just gets a bit demoralising having years of going round in circles that I always put off seeing them again. |

Oh damn. If it helps give any hope I work with someone who was waiting for an MRI and he had his recently. He was sent to a private hospital for it as obviously NHS ones are mostly just dealing with covid patients at present. |

Nope, I've been denied anything except hormones to stop my periods because of my age even though I don't even want kids. Though annoyingly if I did want kids and was struggling to get pregnant I'd probably be offered surgery. Can't win. |

I had the same last wk , went to chiropractor and had a joint in lower back out and the nerve was reacting to it. He put joint in and told me to do 2 mins of hot and cold couple times a day and specially b4 bed. I'm way better now 6 on. Mayb might help you. |

As someone said above it depends on what is causing the pain. Mine had been caused by a trapped nerve and I found massage immediately temporarily helped reduce the pain.
However like others above I only got day and night long relief when I was prescribed pregablin.
The only thing I would add is I found that amitriptyline messed with my consciousness so I stopped it immediately and a high dose of pregablin affected my concentration, so I have had my GP reduce it over time. Pregablin also takes a couple of weeks to have any effect But I agree with the others a word with your GP is necessary. |

I have long term issues with my back and spinal cord with the joys of nerve damage that comes with it. I have a combination of amitriptyline and pregabalin with regular reviews of dosage with my neurosurgeon over a number of years, even the highest dose of codeine didn’t do anything for me and ibuprofen caused different issues, so I settle with good old paracetamol four times a day and my best friend is the old fashioned hot water bottle and the hot jets on the shower! Somedays accepting that the pain can be too much is allowed too, so doing what you can and when you can is the best mindset I have found.
Hope you find some relief with whatever combination works for you as none of us have the same results, x |

I’d definitely speak to your GP. I have a buggered vertebrae and that impinges on a nerve, affecting my shoulders and arms. I’m on a combination of naproxen, tramadol, Gabapentin and paracetamol. I rattle when it’s meds time lol. I’ve reduced the dosages as much as I can, as I don’t like being on so many, and long term. But my only other option is surgery, which is too risky relative to the pain.

Definitely go back and see what your options are. There may be a steroid treatment they can offer you. Not wanting children does not mean you’re less of a priority. That’s so unfair and makes me so angry.
If you are prescribed something, ask them about ALL side effects. Using pregablin or amitriptyline long term can become addictive, lots of doctors have stopped throwing painkillers at a problem, which should be incentive for them to look into treatment for the problem, and not just the symptoms.
With amitriptyline, getting the dose right was really hard at first, if I wasn’t falling asleep at my desk, I was wanting to throw myself off a bridge, so finding a sympathetic doctor who’ll take the time to trial some different things would be your best option. |

It's such an ongoing issue in medicine. I don't want people who want kids to have lesser medical care, I just want my issues to be taken seriously even though I don't want kids. |

Don't underestimate the power of chiropractic either.
Nerve pain following a prolaped disc in my neck made me understand how some people contemplate suicide. That was many years ago and I've been left with all sorts of chronic problems associated with it.
I manage them with chiropractic and knowing what makes it worse.
I hope you get relief soon, that sort of pain is unlike any other. |

1.try lying on your front to centralise pain.
2. lying on front us arms to press yourself up keeping pelvis to floor.
3. Try sleeping with pillow under knees or between knees to take pressure off back
4. use ice pack to try and reduce swelling inflammation
5. TENS machine can reduce pain.
6. Don't rest too much, try and keep as mobile as possible.
A few suggestions that I've tried in the past, might help,

There’s nothing worse than nerve pain I’ve been suffering with frozen shoulder for 3 months was due to have a injection but with all this lockdown can’t so have had to resort to codeine . I didn’t want to go down that route again as have had issues in the past but feel like I have no choice as I’ve had very little sleep for 6 months.. hope you get it sorted x |

Thank you everyone so much for the comments and sympathy. I really appreciate it. Think I'm just going to have to brave the GP again. I haven't seen gynae since I moved to Liverpool and there's a whole hospital here that's just for obs and gynae so fingers crossed I have more luck here. |

I recently had a slipped disc and it was painfull to walk, back pain has gone but now have horrid nerve pain in my leg, tried all the meds that everyone else has mentioned. Recently had an MRI scan and now waiting for results. If uou have not had a MRI it might be worth you getting. Good luck |

I have nerve issues in my shoulder and in my thigh, my physioterrorist recommends an ice pack for the shoulder. She says it helps everything clam down and retract, giving the berve a bit of space to settle. |
