Discuss forum disagreements at a meet?

Having entered into a few discussions in the forums a lot being politics and in such discussions there seem to be a core of people who debate these subjects
If you ever met any of the people you have what you would call a heated debate would you continue the debate in person?
Myself it would be a big no.
Its not that I am opinionated on a PC and dont voice my opinions when I feel they should be its just that in my opinion meeting and forums should be apart |

I've met quite a few people at socials that I've had disagreements with online but it's never boiled over into a heated debate face to face. There are some I'd probably not want to speak to but if pressed I'd be polite and try to keep it light so as to not spoil the evening for others who happen to be there too.
I hope other people remember that should they happen to meet me one of these days.  |

There is no emotion in font there for its easy to take someone the wrong way on here, i, myself have had it a few times where people have mailed me because they have thought i was being funny with them when i really wasnt and i couldnt see how they thought i was
I have met a few people in real life that have been really nice yet came over as being a bit of a noob on here
Real life is real life, internets the internet, dont confuse the two |

Maybe heated was the wrong word as it can be hard to have a heated debate on a forum with the half hour pauses.
I would never hold it against anyone for not having the same views as me as after all mine could be as wrong as I think theirs are and would talk to them as I would anyone else that is unless they took the huff. |

Its unlikely that i would meet many from the forums, however as an adult id be polite and just because id have a difference of opinion on one subject to one person wouldn't mean that we haven't found common ground on other issues. Due to it being a social id certainly no see the point in purposely being awkward so would find conversation on things we have agree'd on.
I have formed opinions about people based on their post (as im sure a few of us who have been around also do). Not everyone will get on with everyone, but that's life. Just because of text typed out on a forum i doubt very much id hold any kind of grudge against someone just because we are different people, surely it makes it interesting. |

After reading some of the comments on the Tony Blair topic during the week, I'd go out of my way to avoid such people in the first place.
To be so vindictive about him and of course many of the other politicians mentioned, means there has to be an underlying personality to someone that would go against many of my beliefs.
To condemn someone as a war criminal, when even the authorities and even the party they personally support gave their blessing to him, is narrow minded and bigoted.
We would not knowingly want to meet bigots, the world is small enough as it is without their input. |

Well its not exactly off topic...some people see posts as a reflection of how u'd be on a meet...I say fanny on here as a joke...sometimes I think people will think I'd say something stupid while on a meet like..."whoaaa!..u've the best tasting fanny ever!"
the forums are great, but it is just one small part of fab tome...and mostly I'd hope people will see past a profile(and posts)...and all its spelling mistakes and grammatical errors and actually enjoy the time they have with someone in person |

Most topics and viewpoints aren't likely to lead to decisions on who I'd not want to associate with, though there may be one or two subjects that would influence me that way.
As for socials, unless we're at a debating society, then I like to relax, laugh, have fun and generally take things easy. As others point out, internet forums are somewhat disconnected from who someone is - their beliefs/opinions at one particular time do not make the person, it's not their identity/personality. And with discussions, so much is communicated via body language, tonality, emphasis etc, that mere words are just a superficial aspect to things.
I hold strong opinions on many things - I'm rarely inflexible, but also have so many other things in life that I really have a passion for, one of them being an incredible sex life. |

There are some people that I would definately go out of my way to avoid if I happened to be in the same place as them,not because of disagreements but because of attitudes that I don't like and that are ingrained into every post that is made on here

i dont recall any forum post,or poster being discussed at a meet or social.
it would make for a pretty boring forum,if sycophantic posting was the norm.
in real life i have differing opinions,from many of my friends,they're still my friends,i wouldn't have it any other way.
i do think the written word,is often misinterpreted.
body language,often says,as much as the words themselves. |
