Prison escape

A couple got arrested and was sent to prison. They were put in the same cell. They decided to escape.

There was an open window at 20 foot high. They tried everything to reach it but no luck.

They decided to try and dig their way out. After several days of digging they came up with another plan. This time their plan worked.

What was their winning plan?
