How do you make yourself feel beautiful? Makeup tips, tricks, etc.
(My eyebrows come to you via Nyx micro brow pencil in Espresso, and Benefit Gimme Brow in 4 or Maybelline Brow Drama in Medium Brown. Usually)

I was just looking up that maybelline product and came across tattoo brow .. it's a gel paint you peel off after.. anyone tried that? I'm struggling to pick a shade online. I'm quite pale, green eyes and lightly coloured brows but darkest brown hair. Help? |

Pat McGrath has a sale on including their tiny mini palettes. They're super high quality, great payoff and wear time. Sextrovert is my favourite shade.
And Urban Decay are releasing another Naked palette. It's purple. They've jumped the shark. |

I'm a big UD fan.
I'm also a big fan of spending time on a night in playing to perfect techniques. I'm only good at it because I've fucked up so much and learned from it. |

Absolutely.
My ride or die foundation is No 7. Great match for me, reasonably priced, long lasting, comfortable on, nice finish. |

Maybelline mascaras are always good but I love GOSH's My Favourite Mascara - lovely natural long looking lashes but alsk cruelty free, paraben free brand etc.
I tint my own eyebrows but would love to try getting Henna done on them. Anyone have experience with it?x |

Yep!! I normally get the miniature but Boots have got it full size in a Benefit gift set atm with a full size Gimme Brow, full size Highlighter and a mini primer for £25! couldn’t resist!! |

I really find good skincare helps me to feel good. If my skin is clear and hydrated I feel so much better about myself. I've said this before but The Ordinary is amazing!
I've been so bored lately so I've been playing around with makeup quite a lot! I did a fabulous purple eyeshadow look a few days ago with my ZOEVA palette! Oh and I finally managed to find a foundation that matches my skin and doesn't cost the earth, so I can start saving £25 on a bottle of that now!  |

Since lockdown I've brought drops of youth products from body shop and serum from Charlotte tilbury and gorgeous makeup from Iconic London...the sunrise to sunset palette is so lush and you get a free multi glow.. win win |

The Ordinary Serum in 1N. I'm quite pale with cool yellow tones and used NARS Sheer Glow in Siberia and never found anything that came close, but this serum one is pretty good for a colour match and it feels lovely on with surprisingly decent coverage for a serum foundation.
I'd say the only negative is that it does tend to get a little darker as the day goes on but it isn't that noticeable! |

Well I dont go for natural or neutrals (obvs) it's a bit more draggy for me.
Earlier this week I bought the Bperfect Carnival pallate. Really impressed with density of the pigment. |

My skin is much much happier in the sun so it’s in good condition atm.
I’ve actually been enjoying makeup free at the moment- except for filling in the gaps in my brows.
I struggle to get foundations to match my complexion because it changes so drastically even though I wear spf50 on my face. I have a bronzing liquid from Bodyshop that I mix in with foundation to darken it, but it’s not really the right shade.
Does anyone else find this and what do you do? I buy different shades of foundation throughout the year but I really struggle to get it right and I waste so much money on foundations I can only wear for a few months |

ELF does a nice tinted moisturiser that leaves a nice glowy tint to skin. Blends well and not heavy - I usually put dusting of powder over too as I look sweaty enough in summer as it is

I use a body shop foundation , if I'm tanned I use a few sprays of the leg mist on my sponge to darken it up a bit , it's more cost effective than the drops |

I use expensive and cheap makeup, my best bargain is CYO from boots, quite often it's on offer and I get foundation for less than 2 quid and I use it every day, full coverage, really light on the skin, stays put all day, matte. You gotta act fast though when it's on offer.
I also use their retractable eyebrow pencil, I find it goes on better than no7 version. |

I ran out of moisutiser recently & my skin felt really dry so against my better judgment used vaseline jelly! Well it was amazing! Fine lines have all but dissapeared, my skin is softer than ever & not had a single outbreak since using it! I can have problem skin caused by hormones & its also sensituve to certain moisturisers & make up, i thought vasoline would cause it to errupt! But it's better than ever before! |

If you have the darkest shade you go to and the lightest you should be able to use them to mix to whatever colour you are at the time. A lot of make up artists mix foundations rather than buy all the shades. |

Found a brand I hadn't heard of the other day and I'm really impressed with the products I got to try and they are so cheap. It's called Catrice.
Does anyone use the ordinary? I got a sample in a kit of one of the acids and loved it I want to see about changing my skin care from elemis to the ordinary as it's cheaper and seems really good but I'm baffled about what to hey on the deciem website |

I do, so I tend to have one that's too dark, one too light and then mix them in the palm of my hand, I use cc cream more though. |

I found it improved when I started using the cleansing oil and serum. Looks like my skin needed something richer. I have t zone.. well kind of a nose and chin minor troubles and normal but sensitive forehead and cheeks.
B. Cosmetic range is food. Quite gentle on the skin. I never liked wipes as they make me too dry. |

Its on my to buy list. I wasnt really pushed about it but i sweated buckets trying to get blood lust and it wouldnt go through on the website yet i got it through the app paid for and all in less than 5 mins |

I did. It's a bit complicated but they're of the view I'm recovering from Covid. Up to another six weeks of symptoms. |

Foundation colours (sorry, catching up!). Some brands have mixers so you can alter the tone of your foundation (lighten, darken, maybe undertone). The one I see talked about a lot is LA Girl, which I think is US only.
I have no idea how foundation matching will work moving forward. I've yet to find an online version that isn't hilariously wrong on me, and I don't have the money to blow on foundation that doesn't match (the Mac website tried to match me with NC42 FFS. The images I'm getting on Google suggest that that's a good shade for... light to medium Indian skin - I hope that's an ok way to describe it. I'm NW20, like, paleish white girl) |

I've got some Revolution salicylic acid to replace The Ordinary, they got rid of it. Shall see how it goes. Reviews say unpleasant texture, but tbh it sounds similar to the discontinued Ordinary one. |

Me too. I've heard good things about the Soph X palettes and The Wants. I need more eyeshadow like a hole in the head, but shrug. (They contain some colours that aren't well represented in my collection and I've barely spent any money on anything apart from groceries since March)
Picked up a bunch of Vitamin E skincare as well. It's astonishingly good for the price. |

I have a question for people. I've been asked for makeup help, from a beginner level. I can do that. But she's (being vague for good reasons here) non white and much older than me.

Mature skin I've always understood avoid powders and use hydrating products. Prime all over then particularly problem areas of creasing such as eyes with a eye primer. My mum swore by oraflame products but fenti do a good range for darker coloured skin.
YouTube maybe for videos on mature make up for darker skin? |

I’m on the hunt for something a bit lighter than foundation with a bit of coverage now the weather is warmer. Not sure if to just try mixing my foundation with some primer or moisturiser or look for a BB cream or tinted moisturiser x |

If you have a good No 7 foundation match, they do foundation drops you can mix with moisturiser at a level that suits you. |

Juvias place pallets are good for darker skin tones and are reasonably priced. Patricia Bright on YouTube might be a good person to have a look at. |

Pigment wise I've had success with Sleek and Bobbi Brown and Mac. Revolution has been also fantastic as well for a more purse friendly option. It's tricky knowing what to recommend for a WoC because obviously there's a huge spectrum in the shades of colour. |

Fenti Beauty have a good range. My stepmother buys from there and is really impressed with the range of products suited for her. She’s not Caucasian and has mature skin so struggled with finding something that worked for her.
Not sure if it’s worth directing your friend to their lines?
Also, with eyeshadows, a cream primer before powder I’ve found is really effective |

Findation, Temptalia foundation matrix, although tbh I find them a bit of a crapshoot (Temptalia gets me spectacularly wrong). There are others. Reddit sometimes comes up good when people on there happen to have similar skin tone to you. |

I have Bond Girl, the lipstick, and it is beautiful and buildable. Reviews I've seen (Temptalia mostly) their lipsticks do really well but their eyeshadow is worryingly hit and miss for the price. She rates some of their cheek/ base products too if memory serves. |

Anyone knows of any good concealer for a very pale skin? As a foundation I use Estee Lauder in shades Shell or Cool Bone. I don't tend to use any concealer as there is nothing lighter than the shade of my foundation
Also do you have any good recommendation for eyeshadow primer?

I bought some that white foundation that's meant to turn a different colour and blend with your skin tone. I'm not really impressed, it's consistency is more like a tinted moisturiser and seems to work better when applied with fingers rather than a brush or sponge.  |

Primer, I use Urban Decay Primer Potion for really strong colour pay off, or the Nyx HD for every day (good wear, not as true colour). People also recommend (I haven't tried) Too Faced or the Mac paint pots. |

"With you on the Benefit Gimme Brow, lovely and natural looking but still noticeable! My staples are all either Benefit, No7 or more recently Soap & Glory! They have an amazing felt tip eyeliner pen that I got as part of a gift set at Xmas, I normally much prefer liquid but this is super easy to use, sharp looking and stays put for ages!

I heartily recommend Boots No 7 Protect and Perfect BB Spf30 cream. The way I look at it you can't go wrong. Anti wrinkle, bit of colour and SPF30. Plus when you're a ginger you need all the SPF x |

The article talks about how nude is often a description for beige, like my skintone, which isn't inclusive. This applies to clothing too.
I think you might be thinking either of no makeup makeup (a specific natural looking enhancement) or nude lipstick. Ironically enough the iconic sort of nude lipstick, a lot of Caucasian women, myself included, can't pull off. It's often around your own skintone or a bit paler. It makes me look like a corpse to be frank. I do use the term nude or nude-ish, but I've always meant that as "nude for me". Perhaps better/ more inclusive in general is MLBB, My Lips But Better.
Huda released three palettes which were nude for different skintones, but eyeshadow palettes are generally more catered to Caucasian women (I believe the very pale colours don't look good on darker/deeper skin tones?). No nude colour palettes cover all skin tones inc very dark
Nude is the synonym for natural
Sadly as you say some beige tints and clothes wrongly call their products nude

I think nude can also be used to describe an idea of neutral in makeup. It often comes with the assumption that it'll work on a certain skintone (I'm slap bang in the middle of it in terms of depth of colour). The Huda nudes (I don't have them, just seen pictures) were great because they had one each for light, medium and deep. And would the deep palette be neutral on me? Nope. But it's not for me (and the article addresses how consumers need to consider that not all products need to work for them) |

I've just discovered Pink Honey brow gel. It kinda gives a soap brow effect but without the residue. Makes my over plucked, patchy and unruly brows more full and gives a laminated effect. Most importantly, the hairs don't budge.
I've rather enjoyed having a rest from makeup and daily preening during lockdown.
Think I'll certainly be wearing a lot less makeup from now on.
My nails are short for once (no acrylics) and I've loved getting messy in the garden and learning some new DIY skills.
I'm in desperate need of a haircut and a pedicure though |

I soaked mine off in acetone at the start of lockdown, trimmed and tidied them up as best I could.

I have the same problem. The answer is have a lot of patience. If the cuticle has a trauma, the nail will be weak. Mine go really flakey and I get hair stuck on them too. Cuticle care and caring for the skin around the nail is the best way to help.
I used OPI nail envy whilst waiting for the shitty nail to grow out. You can get a really good OPI cuticle oil as well which is a miracle worker! |

We do indeed! My sleep pattern is in tatters.
I have OPI oil. I shall dig it out and use it.
I've always just popped into the walk in nail bars to get in fills or a new set. They always used a drill to remove the last remainder of acrylic after a soak off. My nails are like paper now. So thin and ridges on some. They look bloody awful.

Naturally our nails are built with keratin which is made up of proteins , they are so strong and usually never split vertically unless from the free edge and are too long and under stress |

I’d suggest a good penetrative oil with jojoba and almond. And keep your nails short. Don’t apply strengthening “varnishes “ as these can make them more brittle. |

To which I sat and thought most women don’t wear it for men but for themselves. As I know men (most) probably do prefer a natural look |

Don’t wear makeup generally, just sometimes lip gloss. Use No7 face wipes in the morning and for makeup removal.
I used to work in boots and my friend had to mix 2 foundations to get the right tone! now use BodyShop Cinnamon Seychelles and if going expensive, Lancôme.
Stopped using No7 mascara as it smelt fishy, so switched to Benefit falsh lashes or again body shop.
I prefer lipgloss and used No7 but found one from Superdrug called ‘oh my gloss’ which was a good cheaper alternative.
Eyebrows I get threaded but don’t use pencil on them. Can’t use liquid eyeliner so prefer BarryM or Bodyshop kohl pencils.
Occasionally use Boots own brand TeaTree+Witch Hazel skin peel for face as it’s very good at clearing pores and love soap & glory and use their body moisturiser spray if quickly giving legs a shine/smooth on a night out rather than a body butter.

I don’t really wear a lot of make up at most it’s lipstick and mascara for daytime and evenings out. My treat to myself was a weekly wash and blow dry at the hair salon and my own nails gel painted every fortnight.
My daily beauty routine as such is wash with cold water and soap and I use nivea cream on my face and a range of moisturisers on my body |

My 16 year old son gave me a big insight to makeup the other day he said “ mum I think your better without makeup, and Annie (his girlfriend) in fact markups false “. To which I sat and thought most women don’t wear it for men but for themselves. As I know men (most) probably do prefer a natural look "
Surely the secret to good makeup then, is men not realising you are wearing it? I wear it, but favour the natural look.
I swear by Doublewear foundation and mascara by Estee Lauder. Yes it isnt cheap but one bottle lasts me about 6 months. I wear very little other than this and just ramp up the mascara and apply lipstick for a meet x |

Got into my Soph X Revolution palette which I got from the recent Superdrug sale. I like it a lot, for the price or otherwise. The pigment seems a little harder to build than I'm used to, but not insurmountable and I might be able to get better results with practice. |

It’s been rainy here lately which makes it difficult to keep a tan looking nice.
I’ve been using the Jergens in shower tanning lotion. You apply it after bathing, no rinsing off and pat dry. Two days, perfect tan. I’ve used it all over my body and I’ve never had a problem.
Any other recommendations would be greatly appreciated. |

It might be stating the obvious but from a fairly young age, girls & women can change their entire appearance with make-up, hair colour & style etc etc. As a guy you're sort of stuck with what nature gave you. Not strictly but in general.
Girls traditionally learned from peers & magazines & now online how to improve & perfect however they wish to portray themselves & it's all accepted as being girly without question. When I first started 8 years ago with make up as Gemma proper, it's really quite scary & a very steep learning curve with nobody to talk to or learn from close to hand without fear of being ridiculed or branded something I'm not lol. Finding how you can create a whole new you with a little time & patience & a magic glitter box of tricks is both amazing & great fun too. X |

I've just ordered a bundle deal of items from Skinny Tan after hearing good things. There's a coconut daily tanning mist, a tanning serum, some glow lotion and applicator mitts. Can't wait to try them out. Will let you know if they're any good. They were a bargain too x |

I have a soph one and find it a bit meh but got a peach revolution one in the superdrug sale and it's really pigmented.
I was so excited today I got my box of superdrug goodies.
A freebie sample of ysl foundation and the next beauty essentials box which was amazing for £20 full of lovely treats well recommend if any are left. |

"If anyone has any tips for brittle nails, I'd very much appreciate it. I've had acrylic nails for years now and I've only ever had a break from them if I had to have surgery.
I soaked mine off in acetone at the start of lockdown, trimmed and tidied them up as best I could.
The trouble is, they keep splitting vertically. My hair gets stuck underneath when I'm washing my hair and they keep catching on things. It's really painful. They're as short as can be. Any suggestions welcome x
Vitamins? Biotin I think it's called, things sold for nails and hair."
May be worth a try. I've been shielding for weeks so haven't ventured out a great deal into the sun. My hair is very brittle too x |

I didn't mind it, particularly for what amounted to £5 and a bit. YouTube recommendation, those are always hit and miss. It was blendable, just needed to work to build the pigment. |

Never really been into makeup much until recently there’s so many different shades of this that and the other I don’t know where to start.I started off just going for the natural look but after watching YouTube tutorials I really would like to achieve the dramatic dark eye look.
My first few times were a disaster ended up looking like a panda so any tips anyone could give me would be appreciated.I also have a issue with my eyebrows’ I’ve always tended to over pluck until I started having them waxed but due to lockdown I’ve started over plucking them again .I attempted to draw them on and couldn’t get that nice natural look instead I ended up looking like I was shocked . |

Practice practice practice. Remember when applying you need to give yourself room to blend out. And pay attention to your eye shape and between eye and brow, that will determine what you should do for best results. You're better off applying less and adding than trying to take away.
I've given up plucking. Brush the brows up with a spoolie and trim any bits above the main brow hair with a pair of scissors.
I keep my brows pretty natural with a brow pencil and/or a tinted eyebrow gel (Benefit Gimme Brow or Maybelline Brow Drama). The pencil I just fill in any patchiness and the gel makes any hairs seem thicker. I'm not sure if you're having to add to the outside of the brow, that'd change my answer |

Best thing for eyebrows is careprost if you can get hold of it. It's actually a eyedrop for cataracts but you can get hold of it. It's made my overplucked brows grow.
Try and leave your brows totally alone until the salons reopen and look at lamination rather than tattoo as it's much more natural |

Yes, don't pluck your brows anymore, leave them be. Cut any really long hairs like I said if you do anything.
Think about your colouring, skin colour, hair colour, eye colour, and how they work together, as well as the natural colour of your lips. These will determine what will look best on you (although you should do whatever makes you happy) |

After trying the serum, I'm not a fan either
I'm bright orange! Wasn't exactly super pale to begin with bland I only applied one fine later but I'm like an Oompa Loompa
I had such high hopes for it too. The scent was beautiful initially but became really unpleasant and overpowering as it developed.
Will give the coconut a mist a try once this hideous colour fades. |

What liquid lipstick have you tried? I can't help, I'm so not a fan. The Maybelline ones seem to get a lot of love, but liquids tend to rip up my lips so I don't go there.
I've only read/ seen reviews, and I gather Natasha Denona reviews well but isn't necessarily worth the price point. |

I've done some playing with creating a gradient from crease to transition today and I'm really pleased with my progress. One of my new Revolution palettes, I'm not 100% on the colour payoff but it might be that I'm applying it wrong/ not familiar with the formula yet. |
