They have no assets. Their hotel & property suite was sold off a few years ago to raise capital & all the coaches are leased. It's just shell company flogging holidays & nothing more.

Then either them or someone else will operate the same model once demand is back, may take a bit of time but if money is to be made someone will find a way

that employed loads of people ..... not just drivers but admin, fitters etc plus the knock on to all the hotels and facilities they used which knocks on to things like food supplies, laundry etc.... and lets not forget that the group who owned shearings also owned National holidays, David Urqhart travel and Caledonian coaches...oh, hotels this is just a small selection of hotels they own The George Hotel, Chollerford.

The Imperial Exmouth Hotel, Exmouth.

The Golden Lion, Hunstanton.

The Derwentwater Hotel, Keswick.

The Pitlochry Hydro Hotel, Pitlochry.

The Portpatrick Hotel, Portpatrick.

The Ship & Castle Hotel, St Mawes.

The Charlecote Pheasant, Stratford upon Av not even mentioned yet the travel agents who book for them, never mind Wallace Arnold and Shearings travel agents.... up to now about 3000 British Jobs ... not bad for a shell of a company as you describe it is it??

It’s so sad ....... the amount of companies and employees in the direct employment or supply chain....... devastating

This is just the tip of the iceberg, it is not just Shearings group, the whole lot was sold on to SLG Group, who are the ones that have gone into administration, there is actually 4 hotel CHAINS that are included, also the travel agents owned by them did not just book holidays exclusive to Shearings, so i'm afraid the flippant remark made by a previous poster is very ill informed. plus do not forget, 3000 or so staff were dependant on furlough payments to keep their head above water, they now get nothing, they now have to try and get universal credit on a bank holiday weekend

Thread has the wrong title. The Specialist Leisure Group has gone into administration, which owns numerous divisions, all of which have collapsed. The properties are in a separate company to the Shearings coach holiday part. Pedantic yes but my statement was entirely accurate. All owned by Lone Star private equity. Agreed very sad but Shearings have been restructured quite a few times to survive in the past.

Terrible shame for all those who will become unemployed through this, feel this is just the beginning of the collapse of the tourist industry and the start of a major recession, get used to staying at home everyone.

same meat different gravy mate, however you try to dress it up, thousands of people woke up this morning with a job, now the future looks bleak, another one that will probably have a knock on effect from this will be Brittania hotels, Shearings was one of there biggest customers, and they have some big hotels all over the country, mostly used by coach holidays, i know, i am a tour driver and you have no idea how this has rocked the whole industry,

You ain't seen anything yet. Do people really think that you can close down the economy with no consequences? Furlough is just 'expensive dole' to keep most of those jobs off the unemployment register.

Just wait until that 'Ponzi scheme' called the housing market starts to crash because people can't pay their mortgages etc.

I agree it's very sad. Maybe the smaller indies will pick the debris up in time, if they too survive lockdown, & the likes of Alfa & Daish's will become the new well known names on the industry? Often at times of crisis, the big boys in any industry fall first as they are often debt laden & over-stretched. Smaller more nimble companies can often prosper given time, but you can't run tours with a dozen penisoners dotted about a 49-seater.
